I'm going to be going across the Irist sea at the end of June to Cork for Cork week. Been fitting the boat up with some more offshore type safty kit i.e. EPIRD and offshore liferaft. Couple of things I still need though and I wonder if anybody has any sugestion where I might get them:-

>Two lee cloths

>Spares Pack for Volvo MD 22L

Also does anybody have any advice from experiance of doing this trip. Boat will be a 40ft Bavaria Center Cockpit with total of 6 crew.

Thanks in advance

Alistair.

P.S. Anybody else going to cork week?

Hi

we're off to Cork week too.....doing the delivery trip in 2 bits...southampton to Falmouth, then Falmouth to Cork a week later. I've done the Irish sea thing a few times for Fastnet races etc.......treat it with respect (as always) but with fair winds it's a VERY pleasant sail......we're a Hustler 32 named Adrenalin GBR5319...see you there!!!!

I did the trip once before in the YM triangle . Can't give you much advice on the trip as the last time I did it the trip was a doddle . Only comment I can make is that we had big rolling seas round Lands End on the way back. I'm planning to do this trip with my wife late June/early July. Keep your eye open for me .

You might want to consider stopping off at the Scilly Isles. This will give your crew a chance to recover and catch their sea legs. Did the trip to last year. I would recommend Kinsale as your landfall. It is more scenic then Cork and worth an overnight before going to Cork. Again, your crew will love you for it. Drop the harbour master a few cans of Guiness. It will pay dividends ;-)

You don't say where you're sailing from. I crossed from Holyhead to Ireland last week and it was fine most of the way - got a bit lumpy near the banks off wicklow (real big waves).

I don't think you should have any problems in your boat. Timing the tides is important at the corners - particularly Tuskar if you're working your way down the Irish sea and around the corner.

Thats the Celtic sea, not the Irish, much bigger and rougher! Is Hayling Island nr Portsmouth? (dont know south cost) If so that looks a long way, have you thought of doing it in two weekends with a break at Penzance. Cheap and freindly plus good rail links and the boat would be poised for any weather window for the offshure bit.
