Trimarans tipping over like skittles.

Close up, the speed and power, of the Ultims, is mind bending. This was Armel Le Cleac'h using us as a gybe mark this summer. Dead in the water as he turned. Up on the foils by the time I grabbed the camera. In full flight seconds later. Allowing time for I more shot, before he was gone. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. Awe inspiring!

One went past us here on route between La Palma and La Gomera. He was doing 38kts! They are 105ft long and 75ft wide though. Not something you are going to park in a marinaView attachment 201500
They 'park' them on a special pontoon where we are in la trinite. The skippers and crew are well known in france in the way that famous sailors used to be in the uk.

We love going into La Trinite. Thr nearby beaches are good, and an actual welcome from the staff, as opposed to that ‘oh well, if we must’ attitude, even when we fold.

A crazy friend has a foiling 27ft cat with a 50ft mast and a f40 trimaran that he aims to make seaworthy by next summer. The tri was supposedly clocked at 35knts crossing the atlantic some years ago. Hopefully i will get to go out on it....

Not a fan of that helming position though. Not sure that's kosher.
It's not. Breaks RRS 49.2

49.2 When lifelines are required by the class rules or any other rule, competitors shall not position any part of their torsos outside them, except briefly to perform a necessary task. However, on boats equipped with upper and lower lifelines, competitors sitting facing outboard with their waist inside the lower lifeline may have the upper part of their body outside the upper lifeline.

Every once in a while the YouTube algorithm serves up a real treat. Like this Mike Birch biopic. Link works but embedding it on 'other sites' is blocked. Screenshots give a flavour....

Mike's pithy (English) words with French subtitles. Here making deck repairs under duress.

I wonder if a C32 could actually get far enough ahead that the teams wouldn't have time to rebuild their capsized 50 foot tris, retake the start and still pass the C32 before the finish....
How's the crew going to right it without outside assistance?
