TRIDENT 24 b/k. Any opinions?

Generally well built but getting on in years. Relatively cheap compared to other 24ft'rs ... due to lack of Headroom. If headroom is not too much a factor for you - they are very good pocket cruisers ...

Strong, capable boats .... overall check for stress crazing / cracks due to age. Also may need items such as Gas lockers, engines sorted if original ....

Most owners are "dedicated" Trident people and keep them for years ... very faithful dedicated following.

I had one for several years back in the distant past and liked it a lot. Designed by Alan Hill and built by Marcon but many (including mine) were home completed so different standards. They were available with fin keel, centreplate keel or centre ballast keel plus bilge plates which is the version I had. They were built in the days when grp boats were still new, the layup was very heavy as was the internal frames/stringers as if it was a wooden boat but 'planked' in grp. Rig was 3/4 with a small jumper strut on the front of the mast, so smallish jib bigger main. They were reckoned to be a bit tender and were initially so (not very beamy) but once heeled a bit then the centre ballast keel started to work and they were the same as all others. Des Sleightholm (JDS) then editor of YM had one called Tinker Liz that featured in many articles over the years and on the cover of one of his books. They are not spacious by comparison with modern 24 footers but are nice sailing boats and I certainly have fond memories of mine, which was built in 1967 and is still in use today.

Nice boat, I reckon. I remember Des Sleightholme and "Tinker Liz".

Definitely "classic plastic". Personally have always fancied the centreboarder, but the bilge keeler is probably a better all round boat.

Nice boat, generally well liked,as had been said, but have a look at the inside hull, under the bunks, at the bilge keel mounting bolts. These are generally glassed over and if corrosion has started become a real mess under the glass and can be expensive to fix. Check also if this has been painted over to conceal the problem.
Hope this helps,
Pete

Well thanks for that.I rather dispised the boat years agoand certainlt couldnt afford one,but now it fits within my budget and size.Standing up in small boats is a fairly new idea anyway as a result of marinas ; so will put it on my short list, keeping in mind your advice. Cheers
