Went out to watch the round the island race and a mile out of hamble I got a ver bad vibration on port engine, so limped home and left the boat at the Chandlery barge swannick for them to lift her out.

Turned out the port prop had throw a blade of, so antifouled and new anode, £60, port shaft shortened cos it was an inch too long, £90, boat back together, boat yard £150 and back in, so £300 all in.

Went out for a blast and new props were giving 2 more knots which was good news, an average up southampton water of 31 knots I was chuffed to bit, decided to go over towards cowes, stopped near Prince Consort bouy, spoke to someone on another boat went to set off for cowes and starboard engine was not driving the boat, though maybe lost one of the new props so returned to base and left boat back at yard ready to be lifted out.

Turned out that starboard gearbox had given up, bit of a cruel trick given that she’d only been back in the water for an hour! Hurrumpf. Gearbox was re-built by Mermaid, great service, done in 3 days, £330, shaft seal assembly rebuilt as leaking £70 by Alan Burnard, new DSC radio from Swindlery £210, one recon fuel pump I had as a spare has been over fuelled 15%, the leaking fuel pump has been rebuilt and set 15% over, done in 4 days by Hendy Power at chandlers Ford, chap there Eric, used to do fuel pumps for Fairey many years ago, £375, boat yard £150, new piece of stern gland hose £24 (£2.76 and inch!!!!)

So many thanks to Steve Atkins at Mermaid, to Eric at Hendy Power, to Alan Burnard at Hamble Point and to Pete Foukes at the Chandlery Barge, all good service.

So now back afloat, couple of hours tonight and shud be up and running again.

Was always convinced that that flatulence of yours is corrosive or not very ozone friendly.
