While cleaning the boat on the wall today I noticed a bit of broken plastic on the aft deck, you know the kind, 'I wonder where that came from?'

On investigation it was a piece of broken wheel from the aft of the car on my main traveller. All three wheels broken up on the aft, forward wheels seem ok. Explains a few things about the last few times out and not able to get the boom over without a fight.

The traveller is probably original to the boat, 1977 or thereabouts, it is not adjustable other than pushing boom over physically or setting with wind.

I would prefer not to replace the whole lot. The car is a about 5 inches long, a stainless 'V' plate with the wheels underneath which slot into the traveller. It may have AVM stamped on it, but I forgot to write it down before I left this evening.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? The wheels seem to be on little welded shafts, I guess the ends or the shafts belted over to stop them dropping out. The wheels look about 10mm diameter, anyone know what they will be made of, and where I might be able to get some from. Anything non marine use wheels like this, they look slightly similar to those used on filing cabinets but wider on the runners.

Any help advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, not familiar but a couple of suggestions: catalogues like screwfix, RS and Farnell usually have this sort thing, RS http://rswww.com/ has a whole selection of castors in various materials.

Sounds remarkably like my traveller, which is IYE. I had also lost wheels so had some nylon ones made of the same diameter. Secured with SS circlips but couldn't get any, so secured them with twisted round MONEL wire. Seems to have worked.

Re: hey jools

Oh god, I woke with the blood rushed to my head. The aft of the keels had landed on some old paving slabs so she was high up with the bows burried in the sand.

It was great for scraping and power washing, but on board everything was up an incline like Snowdon. Is that what its like for you monohull guys when sailing close. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: hey jools

Well I re-checked the car and it is made by RWO, and still is. Went into partington marine by the harbourmasters and they had some similar wheels on the racks, but not mine. Will have them by the weekend, and wait, £1.90 for a bag of four, so I have splashed out for two bags.

Now how often does that happen........

Paint... yes will need antifoul, but Tim has already offered me some, are you two trying to corner the North Wales market. I still have Tims hose attachment, if you see him ask him to drop me a line to arrange a drop off point ;-)
