Transport from your boat

They are legal here in france and we have one oñ bòard at the moment. Daughter loves it for getting around. Personally i prefer the folding bike. Exercise and no need to keep charging.

If you rent one in the UK they are legal. You can also ride them legally on private land with permission. I am sure it is only a question of time before they are legal no matter what the sad miserable people say.

We need less rules not more and of course these are green. I have had it a while and never used it much till today and both me and her indoors were quite impressed. I also have an off road version with suspension

I look at it from the perspective of knocking into some one , ok accidentally unexpected etc etc .The life changing injuries ie knackered Achilles or knee .There has been deaths reported .
Innocent folks on foot paths .Riders with no 3 P insurance, under the influence of drugs / alcohol or what ever .

If they were used on roads insured like a motorbike then no issue .

Walking on a foot path by a road , in a town or any other pedestrian area ( inc marina pontoons ) should be safe from being whacked by a 30kg metal weight with a 70 kg + person at 20 mph when you are strolling along thinking you are safe at 2-3 mph.

Well I don’t consider myself to be sad or miserable BP but I do see the danger of these things as described by Porto. We have encountered hired electric scooters on the roads locally and they were an accident waiting to happen. Sure they undoubtedly have their upsides but there are some very notable downsides. All IMHO of couse ?

I think one of the issues with the licenced ones is potential for misuse -I once saw 3 lads on evening returning from the pub on one licenced hire scooter - they were on road at night and on the southern island so little traffic etc but repeat that in a populous town and might be more issues. Personally not seen any issues with their use in France recently-main thing is to ensure compulsory insurance and some form of licence for riders. I might suggest mandatory wearing of helmets but that might be rather killjoy to some. One of the issues with the hire ones is restriction on range due to mobile phone coverage.

Have you tried one yourself. Once you have you might change your opinion.

They are a source of a huge amount of head injuries in the ED. There do seem to be very popular with a certain type too which I don’t understand.

Yes that as well , but I stopped short of criticising them for there OWN personal injury.

Bit like smokers in the same vein to quote you ^
“ They are a source of a huge amount of cancer cases in the NHS and cardiovascular premature deaths “

Banning smoking in public places stoped , or was a move in the right dir smokers harming others .

Back to e scouters .They shouldn’t do it where there are pedestrians.
