In oil just above hull, with no air bubbles in it. Should do nicely, if it touches the hull, aparently, the signal gets distorted and spread all over the place, so I'm told.

coincidentally, I have just fitted such a transducer. I would be interested in knowing if I should get a return from the shed floor?

More Transducers

Just got back from friends boat in Spain. Autohelm 30 BiData sounder not working.

Investigation showed zero's and flashing 'feet' at instrument head, and a through hull transducer that had been bonded to the inside of the hull with (apparently) gel coat, but had come adrift.

Just found download of instructions from Raymarine web site which says flashing indicated transduced connection fault ( I wondered if it should hav a ' / ' between transducer and connection). Also says it will be irratic until transducer has been 'wetted' for a few hours.

Did it ever stand a chance of working like this?

Will it ever again?

Is there any (DIY) way of checking transducer for operation?

The (motor) yacht also has VDO Log and Sounder that do not work (obviously replaced byabove device). Are they servicable, who deals in parts etc.

Re: More Transducers

Funnily enough our depth gauge (Autohelm can't remember the model - but it is a tri-data) did exactly the same thing - the problem was in a dodgy connection behind the instrument. Swapping the connection round so the data came in through the wind instrument has fixed it, but probably means we can't daisy off any further.

IMO your best bet it is to disconnect and reconnect (and change for another connection if possible) and if that doesn't work either take your display to another autohelm user or borrow theirs - this way you can see where the problem is ...
