I'm after some advice on refitting the transducer for a Lowrance X65 fishfinder.

It is a transom mount device but got snapped off the other week due to the anchor rope. The trouble I have is remounting it under the water - there is no easy way to get the boat out and ideally I would like it in the boat so this can't happen again.

Problem 1: To get it into the boat I will need to cut the cable - how should I re-join the co-ax cable and will it still work ok?

Problem 2: Will a transom mount transducer send the signal through the hull ok

Or do I just buy a new transducer at £75 - :-(

Have a go before you buy a new one !

Cut the coax but try to keep the cale at original length ! if you can avoid cutting the coax even better.

Blu tack the transducer to bottom of hull as a trial and see if it works before finding a final place for it to be installed !

You can get coax connectors might even be waterproof.

As you will be aware there are dire warning s about cutting transducer cables and reconnecting.

If it's still out the back, presumably with the fitting, can't you just refix to the transom with bigger/longer screws? Screwdrivers work underwater fine! If the gel is badly mauled you will need to get the boat out and fix anyway.
Inside find a nice 'thin' patch of hull as close to the keel as possible - going to be around 8 inchs I would have thought, avoiding stringers etc and clean throughly before sticking tranducer to point straight down. I have the x55 'ducer attached in a bed of 'leaxfix' epoxy and it works fine up to about 200ft.
I think you can get a Lowrance ducer plug for self fit - part no TC-3 (yours will be a 192 unit I think, and post 1989) which is about 24 dollars. You should be able to get from TCS - they got me a new power lead for the x55 from stock. Then you can just snip it off at the plug , pull through, and connect new plug.
Hope this helps.
ps where are you based?
