You're not the first to ask!
Haven't you heard about the Repco V8 F1 engine in the 70's? seriously, that was based on a Rover block.
However I just think it's a pretty avatar!
Mine is actually a modded LR Defender engine so it's all over by 5,200 (136BHP at the rear wheels) and I very rarely use that on the road as typically its going more than fast enough by 3,500!

There were a few different Rover engines used, if my memory serves me well. Had the Triumph 2.5PI with overdrive on third and fourth...wish the boat could do that sort of speed.

The Triumph 2.5 PI engine was a straight 6. The truimph Stag had a V8 which was basically a doubled up Dolomite twin cam engine. It was notoriosly unreliable & many Stags wound up with Ford V6 engines grafted in place.

Even more used the Rover 3.6 which was much heavier than the origional ali. Stag motor. You could always tell the conversions because they were nose down... and few had uprated brakes so ended up in the ditch.

Err, a Rover 3.5 is a fair bit LIGHTER than the Stag boat anchor, in fact in my TR7 it is literally a few pounds heavier than the 4 pot Dolomite based lump.
Rover is all ali, Stag block is Cast Iron.
Stags fitted with a Rover need different springs because of the lighter weight. Ford V6 is heavier than the Stag lump and develops less horses.
If you want real weight then the Triumph straight six is real heavy!

just sold mt TR7V8 4.2 LTR FUEL INJECTION, CONVERTIBLE. It never got used due to sailing every weekend in summer and working on boat every weekend in winter.

Straight through s/s exhausts. What a noise. It would spin the back wheels at 80 mph in the wet on sticky 205/55 15 inch rubber!!!
