Hi - I just bought my first boat with a 2000 90hp 4-Stroke outboard Mercury on it. Someone has tilited the engine too far up at some point and caught the ski bar, rubbing the black paint off and leaving a dirty white mark on the top the engine cowling. Can anyone let me know how I should go about repainting this. The mark is quite big (30cm by 5cm approx) so maybe I need to paint the entire top of the cowl? I havn`t got the first clue how to approach it so all suggestions greatly received.
Thanks

G'day Funners and welcome to the YBW forums.

Cheapest and fasted fix would be a decal, fill any deep scratches first and apply the sticker over the damaged paint; this will provide protection and not break the bank.

You could get on made up with the boat name on it, or make it a sign to remind people not to over tilt the motor, by the way you can adjust the tilt max and min on most o/boards.

Avagoodweekend.

go to a mercury dealer and buy a can of spray paint to match your engine. rub down the damaged area with 400 grade wed & dry used wet, de-grease with celulose thinners, acetone or meths (not white spirit) then re-spray.

an alternative is to paint the hood with woolworth's enamel and guarantee it never gets stolen!
