Toilets

Hurricane I'll be interested to hear your conclusions on Planus. I don't know whether anyone is exhibiting them at SIBS. I'd suggest that while at the show you shouldn't burn up much time with Leesan - they are excellent folks and a nice firm to deal with but they just don't do Tecma so you will waste a lot of time hearing from them how good their alternatives are, when none of them is as good as Tecma/Planus. In my view the retailers of these products know little compared with folks like us who have lived with them and maintained them for 10++ years on a variety of boats on cruises of several weeks, so I wouldn't be looking for much advice from UK-based retailers tbh. Happy shopping!

Just got back from SIBS

Princess are now shipping Planus toilets as standard.
So, I was able to see what they look like on a new boat.
I also spoke to a PMYS engineer that I've known for a long time who agreed that upgrading from VAC would be a very good idea.
And this was "kind of" the final thing that decided it for me.
However, Princess have their Planus toilets slightly modified from the standard.
They use the slim controller using a remote electronics box - (see this link http://www.planus.biz/prodotti/gamma-pulsanti/gamma-pulsanti/slim.htm )
And Planus fit the toilet electronic control box inside the void above the mascerator for them.
They have the water solenoid valve also fitted inside the same void.

So I've ordered a complete upgrade to Planus for JW but without those mods.
I've still ordered the slim controller but I intend fitting the electronic control onto a bulkhead underneath the floor, where I can get at it easily.
Also, I want to fit the solenoid valve in a similar position and then run a flexible water pipe up to the toilet.
That way, I think it might be easier to remove/maintain the toilet later.

Hoping to fit them sometime in November.

Great choice, including the write off of those mods. :encouragement:
Either I didn't understand them correctly, or they are totally pointless, imho.

What's the cost of the Planus? I paid about £600 for the Tecma which I thought was a bargain, I think they're normally about a k?

Six pages about a toilet! Mind you I could have filled 7 just moaning about my ageing Sealand. So Tecma / Planus are the ones to go for.... :encouragement:

If it helps at all I had the 2x manual WCs in my new boat swapped for Tecmas for about £920 each, supply and fit including VAT. It was done by Keto of Swanwick.

Included all the plumbing work, running new elec supplies, and the works needed to provide a changeover for salt/fresh flush.

That's a great price fitted and Keto are very trustworthy. Good info.

Reviving this thread.

Just got home after 2 weeks away fitting new Planus toilets.
I am very pleased with the results.

Many thanks to DJEFABS who drove out to SC to help me fit them.
Without his help, I wouldn't have got the job complete during this visit.
DJEFABS has Tecma toilets fitted onto his boat so maybe he will comment on the differences between Planus and Tecma.
But as far as I can see, there isn't much to choose from.

The style that I bought are larger than the old Sealand Vac units so the bases completely cover the floor area of the old toilets.

I rewired with bigger wires back to the main distribution box and changed the MCBs.
The Planus manual specifies 25 amps at 24v.
This extra wiring took longer than I thought but I have wired the old Vac Unit switches in as well.
This means that each bathroom has its own isolator switch.
I know it isn't necessary but I hate to have switches that don't do anything.
This way, if we want to service one, we won't have to go back to the distribution unit to switch the power off.
All the solenoid valves were fitted under the floor and the control boxes located behind access panels.

It is such a good feeling to know that all that extra pipework has been removed.
Look how much we were able to remove:-

And, as you will probably have seen on another thread, we managed to cheer ourselves up one evening before throwing it all away.

So to recap
I think this will be a great addition and should remove whole of our maintenance/repairs that we have been doing on the old Vac system.
