Hello, I bought a new tohatsu 9.8 4t( engine does not have an oil filter)and one thing is bothering me. In the user manual, it says that the first oil service should be done at 20 hours, then at 100, and in the manual from the seller translated into my language, it says at 10, then at 50 and at 100. How would Did you do the first service?

It will take just one litre of oil more or less, so why not do 10, 50, 100. Cant hurt, easy job and wont cost much.
In reality, you would need standardised tests involving a large number of motors, to discern any difference between the outcomes of these regimes.

If you use an oil pump it doesn't take long to change the oil. They don't take much as JtK says. Change the oil sooner rather than later throughout its life. The specified oil is a low viscosity. As oil ages it gets even thinner to the point where old oil will cause a low oil pressure warning on these engines. The owner's manual on mine specified every 50 hours. Can't remember what the first oil change was at but 10 will be fine.

The manuals for both the current EU model and it predecessor which can be downloaded from Tohatsu's website say 20 hours and then 100 hours.

Maybe 10 50 and 100 were an earlier recommendation or perhaps for territories other than the.EU
(Oil volume is 800ml)

I would stick to the periods stated in the Tohatsu manual rather than a sellers own manual and I think the service has to be done by authorised Tohatsu agent to keep the warranty. If in doubt, telephone Tohatsu importer/distributor in your country.

I’d assume that from new..the 10 hour will be a run in oil change. To get rid of any break in debris. Probably sensible to do at 50 too. Then every 100 or annual after that. Quite normal to have early frequent changes in the early life of an engine

My 8hp Tohastu (which I love) was running quite badly after very little use. I took it in to be looked at and ‘a piece of plastic’ was found in the float chamber that was apparently debris from the build…

Nothing to do with an oil change but just reinforces the suggestion to do an early change as above - just in case
