Hi!

I'm looking at changing to a skin fitting with seacock and strainer rather that relying on the pickup in my outdrive leg. It's a planning hull, would the water intake need to be a clamshell type with a strainer or would a standard 1" thru hull hole be enough?

I helped out the owner of a small planing motor boat a couple of years ago. His cooling water intake was a scoop, presumably to cope with possible negative pressure under the hull at speed. Maybe people on the mobo forum would be more familiar with these?
