Through hull waterproof cable gland advice

I'm fitting a digital TV aerial. Problem is that the cable going through the hull is about 5mm, but the none removable end of cable connectors are about 14mm. Any suggestions for a suitable through hull cable gland? Thanks in advance

Use an Index Marine or Scanstrut deck seal gland. You cut a slit in the rubber bung to fit the cable. It seals effectively when cap is tightened. You can also drill multiple cable holes in a blank bung. I'm assuming it's not actually underwater.

I've used Index Marine in similar situations - works well and not too expensive.

I wonder whether scanstrut is rebadged index. Scanstrut glands are fairly new on the market compared with index I seem to remember.

I fitted one of these cable dorades in stainless several years ago. In my opinion much better than a gland that can leak.


I cannot remember where I bought mine it was so long ago. Easy to open to feed cables through as the actual hole size is quite big, but it's plugged and water has never got in. Mine's fitted just forward of the mast so does get splashed a lot.

I should have used one of those a few year back for all the small cables and just one gland for the radar.

I considered one of those Swan neck cable things but the flatter design of mine means there is nothing for the sheets to catch on when tacking on my boat. I'm sure it depends on the type and size of boat, and location of the cable gland.

Price is, of course, always a consideration.
