THOSE OF US WITH BOATS IN THE MED

Yup , they were all made to order and at one stage Amarti invited you ( prospect) for lunch and if he took a dislike to you he did not build you a boat .
Theres a yellow and turquoise too .
This Family passed the Amarti test :) used it as a tender to something bigger .It was a triple engine as the fuel bill / oil price was kinda irrelevant.

Correct .
The pointy end is generally called the bow and the blunt end the stern .Tend to come in various lengths but your inference ( if I understood your comment correctly ? ) is boats seem to follow a common theme regarding external shape ? ....something to do with hydrodynamics I understand. :)
look here .....

Crikey ....same shape wow !
However beauty with some is not just skin deep .:)

Speaking to some friends yesterday - on Zoom of course! - apparently crews are returning to the super yachts ie full complement of crew heading out. His daughter returned to her boat as Wizz opened up. Our marina in Italy just sent me an email welcoming boat owners back and at same time saying being on a boat was the safest form of holiday. So a plug from our marina which seems to indicate that they want/need commerce back. I am increasingly optimistic that boating will happen in July and August but not at all optimistic it will be with British people.

The important indicator to watch is the red and green areas in France, this is found on the French Government website.
The color will affect how the shutdown will be lifted. At the moment the PACA (Provence-Alpes-Côte D’Azur) région is green but what is important is their status on the 7th as that is when the decision is made.

Seen people walking about on the pontoons in Loana today .
So it’s just a case of opening up the Chunnel ?
let’s hope the politicians in the EU do not intertwine brexit into there deliberations but as we are 10/14 days behind in terms of lockdown our numbers seem to be aligning per population.

They will want to apply what ever pressure on us to make concessions like Fr access to our fishing grounds etc .
None of this has one iota effect on the C19 , virus ......but what cards have they got left ?

The R calcs will fluctuate depending on differences each players release strategy , but given time they will equalise near enough so,s cross border by car will not put upward pressure on the R .

"So it’s just a case of opening up the Chunnel ? "

I think we need the following:-

1. UK govt to allow travel for non essential reasons
2. Chunnel open or flights flying - which implies destination country allowing foreigners in without quarantine restrictions
3. Govt in destination country allowing movement for non essential reasons plus allowing use of pleasure boats.

Had this from Empuriabrava marina today
Looks like if you live in the Empuriabrava residential area then one person is permitted to go to the boat for inspection and maintenance.
A google translation but you get the drift

(Inbox PROTOCOL FOR ACCESS TO THE PANTALANES OF THE SPORTS PORT Measures against COVID-19 Starting Monday, May 4, the access of the clients residing in this municipal term will be allowed to the pontoons for the inspection and maintenance of their boats. Measures to be taken into account by all clients:
1. It is recommended that clients accessing the port go directly to their boat
2. Only one person may enter per boat and it is advisable to come with a mask and gloves
3. Only it allows the stay in the boats, not being possible the transit by the pontoons
4. In the common areas like footbridges and pontoons the number of people must be limited as much as possible so that there are no corridors and the safety distance is maintained.
For any queries to the seafarers, communication by the VHF channel 9 or by calling 696 24 58 52 will be recommended. 6. For greater security and until further notice, the duch as and toilets of the marina will remain closed.
7. The seafaring personnel of the port will check if there are accumulations of people in common areas, asking customers to meet the requirements of social distancing.
Thanks for your collaboration for a prompt and safe return to nautical activity. Remember that we work for your safety and ours! EMPURIAPORT

If you look @ Spain’s + Italy release strategies various stages with pauses for consideration before the next .
I was assuming the cross border tourist side would come last .Thus far it’s only workers and returning ( albeit a bit late ) residents who are crossing borders , along with lorry drivers .
Initially they are in stage 1 or 2 ? Keeping movement to regions, but in later stages the whole country.
About 100,000 per day travel into Switzerland from neighbouring countries to work , the majority in Ticino .....borders with italy .
Chunnel has never closed its been doing freight , key workers , and repatriations .

Have not looked but there must be all ready a lot of cross border movement in Luxembourg?

I don’t think we should lump airport travel and motoring into the same silo with regards the R number and personal risks .

Thinking driving from Penzance to Edinburgh = London to Geneva as I say feels identical risk wise for the cities at both ends .
Can,t see any upward pressure on the R numbers in all 4 sites .

Quarantine within the main Europe states is not necessary if they have more or less the same R numbers .

As I said we are approx 2 weeks behind Italy .
Switzerlands release program is quite advanced .
Spain are on a 3 stage plan .

Ok U.K. hasn't passed “ GO “ and collected £200 :) So it’s a bit like a game of monopoly.......each players at different parts of the board .

Early to Mid June tourist cross border by motor cars is my prediction .

I have booked my Chunnel place Tue 16 th June .

Looks sensible from Spain .

Easing Restrictions: What are the new rules in Spain?
S.gif
With the restrictions across Spain being slowly lifted after two months of the tightest lock-down in Europe, you may be wondering when you will be able to visit and use your boat again.
A Phased Approach to Ending Lockdown

The below are noteworthy dates for the easing restrictions in Spain, based on phases 0 - 3 which we will detail below:

04 - 10th May : Phase 0

11 - 24th May : Phase 1

25 - 7th June : Phase 2

08 - 21st June: Phase 3

01-10th May: Works + Security Checks Only

During this period professional maintenance teams and captains are able to work on the boats under their management. Owners are able to check on the security of their boats, but only if they do not have to travel beyond the municipality that they live in.

Boatyards will be open although limited strictly to professionals who are permitted to operate within them.

11 - 24th May: Restricted Recreational Use

For boat owners residing in the same municipality that their boat is moored in, recreational use will be allowed given that the groups on board are acting within their 'personal limitations' - which could refer to the time of day that their age groups are allowed - and that hygiene guidelines are followed.

27th May - 7th June: Inter-Municipality Travel Permitted

Boat owners can now travel within their province (but not beyond) to visit and use their boats recreationally. Usage is now permitted for larger groups too, so long as wider government guidelines are followed. Trips will be limited to within the same province, which also means travelling to islands outside the province is not yet allowed.

08 - 21st June: Minimal Restrictions Will Apply

No further restrictions on group sizes or travel within Spain is expected. Rules on international travel have not been specified yet given the unpredictability of outbreaks in countries beyond Spain. Our own view is that there may be ongoing restrictions that are yet to be announced, and make sure your paperwork is in order as we expect more police checks during normal navigation!
We hope this helps to clarify the position for owners and captains. Of course all of this could change, b

The Elysee did a U-turn on the evening of the 3rd and said that there will be no quarantine after May 11th for EU and UK travellers. Whether the mileage rule applies I've no idea but I'd have thought anyone flying into Nice etc would be OK. Our marina is opening on the 11th … Hooray!
The change was published in The Connexion on the 4th which is where I got the info.

We ( Oxford scientist et al ) are very close to a workable vaccine , way ahead of the rest of the field.
+ Have 3 manufacturing sites ready to go .....just waiting for some one to press the on button .Talking millions capacity.
Did you not notice yesterday Boris and team ( some bright people in there ) talking about a Europe wide collaboration......in other words we will share .
It all depends where France , Spain and others are tech wise .Behind us a long way btw .

And what I have been saying they need to give out a solidarity msg and not to be seen to degenerate into border squabbles amongst them selves .
Ok we are out of the club ....but very soon will hold enough vaccines

Plus as said on previous posts if the R number is near enough equal then it does not matter where you move to and from .

Anyhow ducks aligning .

I had to go to office in London to get some critical papers yesterday ironically needed to file returns for the regulator. Anyway, drove in and drove out but I would say that the lockdown easing has started ie people are self easing out of lockdown. It felt like a quiet day in August to me. Coffee shops and sandwich shops open and observing social distancing and lots of people walking, many of whom clearly not 2 m apart - which increasingly looks like the wrong advice ie not needed to be so far apart. The fact that our lockdown specialist also broke his own lockdown advice also suggests that it will not be possible to lock people up much longer and so a Europe wide sensible plan is needed and co operation along with it. Look at Germany which is now easing quite quickly driven by the Federal states. Big question is what happens when (not if) we see uptick in infections. without a vaccine I believe that we will have to live with it and be sensible but economy clearly can not take another lockdown if we want anything left. i would also love to understand why, assuming everyone is reporting the numbers correctly, as the worst country in Europe we have not seen the type of scenes we saw in Italy and Spain in the hospitals/morgues etc. Even more curious as we were lead to believe that in terms of ICU beds per head and ventilators we were way down the list. Either the papers have not reported these scenes here (unlikely), our health service was in a far better shape than we were told, the numbers elsewhere are wrong (probably) or some other reason I am too dumb to understand. But London was clearly not overwhelmed in spite of the fact we went into lockdown later than everyone else in a relative sense. I suspect the answer is that the virus was around for a hell of a lot longer than people thought and that actually we in the UK may have gone into lockdown relatively earlier along the curve - and ergo numbers are wrong. Anyway, just a thought.

Perhaps it’s a culmination of “ error of judgements “ by some advisers?

Fat cells secrete ace 2 receptors which the way the virus enters cells .
So if you end up demographically with ( after a few weeks ) more / less the same virus in the big EU states , the one with the more obese population will come out top .

I have discounted BAME as Fr has more Africans , which are the more prone group within that group ....anecdotally and we still beat the Fr ....but as said counting differences may play a part .

There could be other differences in each populations that play on the immune system ....for example periodontal disease .If you have it your immune system is pre occupied with that so weakened .All BAME are more prone to perio .

Germans , Swiss , Danes + other Scando countries take perio prevention very seriously.

Uk is the worst . There’s poor access to appropriate treatment in comparison.

Just anecdotal with this virus , but we know emerging evidence there’s a link with perio and cardiovascular disease / strokes .
Ongoing work in those areas .

There’s a lot of rabbit holes to go down , if we fully understood the virus we wouldn’t be in this collective mess .
