I like it, it's more like a newsgroup. Keeps current threads in the readers view instead of having to go back over two or three pages to see if anything has been written.
It always appears some people do not like change. You should have read the adverse comments when this forum (and all of the YBW site) was changed after "problems!!!!" with postings. Many wanted the old system back again, after almost a year like this, the moans are no more.
As you say, replies are always at the top. I find no problem with it either.
I've got mixed views about it . I quite like the latest postings going to the top but I wish there was an easy way of showing what new threads there are since the last time I logged on. At the moment you've got to search for them by looking through the listings. It would really make a difference if they were marked in some way e.g a different colour.
Open to misuse? What forum, in what format, (apart from a full-time moderated one) isn't? I can see no reason why a 'currency' format like this is any more vulnerable than a 'chronological' format like the one we had until a couple of days back.
My reason for preference - easy-answer posts "What's HW time, Portsmouth 28th June?" disappear very quickly once answered, while provocative ones "Red/blue/white ensigns - which one's the biggest wally" stay near the top and attract more and more response.
I suspect it's also a matter of what you're used to. I use two fora, photo.net and chiswickw4.com, that have always listed posts by last response date and I find it far easier to follow and far easier to access fora in this form. The old ybw.com always seemed retrograde from my p-o-v.
I've got mixed views too but it's got distinct advantages. A colour or flag for new threads is certainly a good idea. Can it, need it, be auto turned off though - and when?
Got to say I don't like it (and no I'm not being a Ludite) - it just doesn't meet my needs. I dont want a newsgroup type solution - I want to be able to see the newest threads first not some comment on an old thread.
I don't want to chat...like most others I want info and with the new format it lends itself to resurrecting those posts on which everyone has an opinion, but isn't necessarily new or informative.
