Has QHM ever given any serious thought to the fact that the speed limit in most areas of Portsmouth and within 1000m of shore in most of E Solent (10knts) is the speed at which many pleasure boats cause most significant wash, for least fuel economy?

It is a maximum speed! Wash is the overriding factor. Some yachts under power will "glide" thru the water faster than a powerboat leaving minimum wash. If you are going at a "speed" which creates excesive wash then you are going to fast!

I don't know if anyones been done, but you do see some big Wash coming off some of these so called 6 knots of boat speed at times, think a no wash with no greater speed than 6 knots may be a better solution.
