Hi,
We along with 5 others were broken into last night and although we had a plotter, h/held VHF, EPIRB and even a mobile phone on board, nothing was stolen apart from some drinks. It was probably kids as they only stole some change off the other boats and drinks. They did cause a lot of damage entering the boats though.
Anyway as usual after these things you end up adding security. I popped down to Moody and bought one of their cabin locks, which is fantastic. It was £80.00, but you would need some hefty tools to break it open. Apparently they have sold 1,000 of these and have not had a reported break in.
If you don't have a good lock, I would seriously advise getting one and I can recommend the system Moody sell from Holland.
As for the response from the Police, I will have to reserve judgment as to whether anything will be done. They haven't spoken to any owners yet and although they were apparently going to send scenes of crime and told us not to touch the boats, we had no choice but to replace locks etc as they hadn't turned up by evening. This probably destroyed a lot of evidence. I suspect it is a lack of man power, but it is a shame nothing was done to preserve evidence which could help to identify those concerned.
