The Windy\'s back in action!!

I'm a happy bunny again. I took my Windy 8800 back round from Pwllhwli to Porthmadog on Saturday afternoon after 5 long weeks of engineering works.

The weather could have been better - 6's & 7's, fortunately offshore N. Westerlies!! Fairly lumpy sea but nothing too scary. Runs great on LPG (for those on the LPG / Petrol debate) and during a calm day last week was tested up to 45kts at WOT (for the benefit of Johnny and BIGCOL who think 27kts is fast!).

So now its back to tinkering and cruising, or cruising and tinkering :)

Re: The Windy\'s back in action!!

Glad to hear the good news Dave,

Do you intend keeping it in the water this winter to make up for lost use?

I would have taken mine out this year, if It hadn't been out for 3 months in Spring/early summer doing the engine swap. I now plan to move it to York at the end of the month, and keep it on the Ouse until April.

Re: The Windy\'s back in action!!

Y'know Julian, you may be better off doing the swap and biting the bullet on this. From what I've read of your previous posts, it seems that the unit has some "embedded" problems. Throwing good money after bad springs to mind and besides, reliable boating is a pleasure, unreliable boating is a pain in *rse - not to mention dangerous!

BTW, the fishing has been good this year with plenty of good sized mackerel caught. I have also noticed that the sea is alive with small fry, which augers well for future stocks - lets hope so. Cheers.

Well I'm undecided Martyn? I will probably lift out but only for two months, Dec & Jan, so as I can do a bit more on her, like have the hull professionally cleaned by GRPro-Clean. We do get some nice winter days at Porthmadog, so I don't want to miss too many!! Good luck with your move to the Ouse, it sounds good. Cheers.

Still got to fit my Eberspacher and hot water connections to the new engine.

Better get on with those jobs, it's getting cold!

No, hoping to do a bit of begging o/s Betty's tea shop in York in the run up to Christmas.

Figure if all goes well I'll be able to Keep MedMartyn's company when he moves it to Majorca. If business isn't so good, I should at least make enough to buy a second D1.7 Merc. Then never mind a V40 going backwords, I'll trounce a 365 going sideways!

Other than that it'll be back to S Ferriby, but they can't stay there afloat in t'winter cos they need to drain down to poor little Ancholme each low tide to stop North Lincolnshire getting as wet as York. Mmmm must remember to leave plenty of slack on t'warps.
