The Windows sealant dilemma on SV Oddity.

Just trying to be helpful, but don't confuse the tolerances of boats with that of the automotive industries. You will find huge differences when mating your frames and windows to the aperture that has been hacked out of the side of your coachroof. Don't assume that some nice tool has been used to ensure that all windows are identical. It wasn't that long ago that the majority of boats were made out of wood and nails :encouragement:

Get rid of all that old fashioned alu frames & all those screws - replace with 3M VHB tape(Very High Bonding)

Mine has now been in for two years , no leaks despite the boat being only 26' (remember those days when one was proud to have a 26 footer).

Anyhow, in those two years the boat has been put through its paces, inc. Out in F8 gusts - as I said, no leaks.

I did put a slither of sealant right round the edge of the windows though.

Good luck.

I'm following this thread with interest. One of my wheelhouse window leaks, always has, only a drop but as the WH is marine ply it's going to do some damage eventually. It has an aluminium frame inside and out and loads of screws, I've taken the screws out once and tried to prise the alley frame off, but couldn't bugde it.
