=nortada;4262826]All been very quiet on the activities of the Portuguese Authorities on The Algarve so does it follow that they have not been 'targeting' foreign flagged vessels.

From conversation it would appear that many folk are taking safety equipment more serious & that can't be a bad thing.

That appears to be the case. Coincidence or not, all seems to have gone quiet for foreign boats since the RYA discussions but, we still see many small local boats being pulled and inspected.

It may well be that the Portuguese authorities have been asked to "tone it down" although I personally doubt it. However, it is clear from the long entry on the Lagos Navigators site from late last week that the Portuguese navy at least is still active in Lagos Bay.
Fair winds.

So How Has It Been For You?

Lack of posts probably answers the question how has it been for you but now that many are now tucked up for the winter, how stressful has sailing in Portuguese Waters proved this summer?

I assume that the lack of posts means the the authorities have been 'behaving' themselves?

As an aside, are they still having rail strikes on the Faro to Lagos line?

I think it may be that different people are sailing here now who are a bit more laid back about contact with bureaucracy, hence no posts!
The alarmists seem to have moved on!

Not quite.

Talking to a couple in Sopromar Yard yesterday. They left Culatra a short time ago and were boarded by four Maritime Police.

They were given a pretty thorough going over.

Fair enough., but getting a thorough ninspection by usuall ycourteous authority should not pose a problem. Having said that,I may get boarded and held at gunpoint when I leave here!:p

TBH, I was surprised to hear their story as I, too, thought all this had passed.

However, a well found yacht, minding its own business, retired couple.........I do wonder what the motivation behind the boarding was as it must have been pretty instantly recognisable that their interrogation and inspection would yield nought.

Perhaps the Police are under some sort of pressure to achieve a quota.

Now that should be fun to watch:)

Haven't seen or heard of any foreign boats being pulled around Ria Formosa but that doesn't mean there haven't been any. Unfortunately, the original problem was blown out of proportion by a few posters who seemed mainly to be quoting heresay. As Ludd says, hopefully they may have moved on.

May be heading west to Lagos next week (visitors on board) so will see what happens.

Are you stopping off en-route? Be interested in what you hear from others.

Waiting For The Cheaper Rates To Kick-in?

Don't know about the Algarve as we are not there this year but there were 50+ boats in the anchorage off Cascais the other night , we gave up counting at 50!. Tonight F6 NE and 30 or so boats at anchor. The marina is half empty.

So what are your conclusions? On passage (N/S) or just waiting to the mooring dues tumble to winter rates (17 Sep onward?).

Can't believe they are contemplating lying to anchor there, exposed, for the whole winter:eek:

I think most here are on passage. we are on our way to the Cape Verdies via Morocco. Just interesting that it's now 6 gusting 7 and there are more boats in the anchorage. I think the marina has it's pricing all wrong or perhaps they just like being empty.
