The serious danger of the wrong diesel heater exhaust fitted.

oh dear oh dear………..So that is the end of the DIY market B and Q’s all over the Country will have to close and be replaced with checkers and regulators and of course Solicitors
That electrical certification has been around the U.K. property market both commercial and certainly residential letting stuff for years in my U.K. property dealing experiences .
As has CO appliance gas certs .

It cuts both ways protects both parties .

Same with CO generating stuff on a boat if it’s regulated it will protect the buyer and obviously the seller is still alive to sell it .Unless it’s his / estate after a “ accident “ on board .Hope not .
Can’t you see the risk( s) here .Two fold the DIY instal bit and the CE * approved gear installed .

* Thats Chinese Export folks .

CO alarms are mandatory on UK inland waterways boats with interior accommodation space via the Boat Safety Scheme.

Dont blame you. If I lived somewhere like that I would go Snow boarding or similar as well.

Putting the toys back into the pram

The silencers provided are assumed to be used in vehicles (parking heater not mooring heater) and as such are fitted outside the cabin

Boat exhaust systems are inside and require better equipment
Actually, they're not needed at all

And yes, if you are burning anything on board you are most strongly recommended to fit CO alarms. Also if you moor close to other boats

The lack of regulation in this area has killed people (and ruined a few more lives no doubt) already and will kill a few more I expect.

That's the price of freedom.
As of today it is mandatory to have linked smoke alarms in the hall way in the main room, also heat, smoke and co alarms in the kitchen for all rented properties in Scotland, it also applies to normal domestic properties too.
Gas safety certificates every year and electrical certificates every 5 years or when a new tenant moves in which ever is sooner.
While I had linked alarms in all my properties it has cost a small fortune to update them all to comply with the new regulations even though some were only recently installed.

I think the heaters are pretty decent, but some of the supplied bolt on stuff is poor quality for a boat, the exhaust flex and the fuel feed line are toy town stuff.
If you want to see scary ,join the FB chinese diesel heater page and take a look at some of the diy van installs!

The heaters are so cheap I would say they are almost consumables, first sign of trouble just fit a new one.

there is nothing wrong with the heaters I have 4 and I can assure you they are excellent. As I said those exhausts are for mounting outside generally underneath a camper van. Buy one and try it out you will see for yourself They are about £100

Hmm, you must be lucky. I joined the FB page for Chinese diesel heaters, jeez there's an awful lot of problems and issues with the units and controllers, granted some are brought about by poor installations and lack of voltage but some startling quality issues too.

i would go so far as to say that everyone who has one on this forum has only good things to say about them. Have you got one yourself or had any real hands experience of one

Ben did my survey last summer and warned me in no uncertain terms not to fit a Chinese heater so I follow with interest the threads here saying either they are great or that they are disaster waiting to happen.

I was on the FB Chinese heater group, I posted a link to one of the MAIB reports on a fatality due to heater exhaust leaks. The post was taken down even though some members were grateful for the reminder as they were not aware of the dangers! I left the group after that.
I am also on one of these groups and I think the reasons it may have been pulled was that several people started threads about this incident, so many of the same threads were running at the same time. This coupled with the fact that many were stating that the cause was a fault with the heater, when it has been clearly shown that it was down to poor installation.

Poor moderation then. Should have locked the thread and stated the reason why rather than censorship.
