Hello everyone,

My Partner and I have recently picked up a Newbridge spinner. For those who haven't had the privilege it was designed for the Half ton cup and is what is best described as a seasoned cruiser racer.

Here's the rub. We are both fairly experienced racers but can't seem to get her moving, well certainly not as well as her pedigree would suggest. She was initially Handicapped at 998 and so we assumed (dangerous I know) that she would have a bit of life in her. Since buying her we have fitted a new tri-radially cut 150% laminate foresail, a "racing Dacron" mainsail, replaced all the standing rigging and had it tuned. That alongside the usual annual like new anti foul , replace running rigging etc etc. There is also new electronics and a number of other improvements - all of which don't have a direct effect on performance.

So - what am I after? Well a number of things are on my wish list. Here goes: Any advice on how best to sail this particular machine and if she is a beating machine or should be raced off the wind and play the angles? Does a generic Polar exist for this boat? Has anyone got a magic wand to make her competitive or would like to come and beat the muppetry out of us - we're in the West Country.

It may well be that we are just making tactically naive decisions, ergo muppetry, however I can vouch that we are trimming her well and are incredibly keen to make her competitive. Therefore I request, neigh grovel at the feet of your collective and worldly knowledge and hope you can collectively assist me in returning this appreciating classic back to her former racing pedigree and give these young bucks a run for their money.

I look forward in anticipation to any support you can offer.

Yours appreciatively

Ray
