If the queen says sorry for war time bombings - what else should we say sorry for?

Sorry Adolf, did'nt mean to bomb you, but you started it! What a load of nonsense!

Oh maybe she should say sorry for her ancestors having the temerity to resist the rightful return of the Stuarts ..

Perhaps she should say sorry to the displaced of the clearances for the govt of the time giving inadequate protection to citizens

Perhaps she should say sorry to The Irish for the famine

Perhaps she should say sorry most of all for being the head of a class system that's destroying Britain, and for pretending to be a constitutional monarch acting as a constitutional check ... when in reality we know she's just the head of a house of spoiled brats who do this country no favours and has zero constitutional importance.

Bit like the Merchant Navy ??

My Father was in Bomber Command .... and he always remarked about the Merchant Navy ......

But sadly true for a lot of brave men and women ..... boys and girls many of them.

I'd much rather have her as head of state than some of the presidents which the republics have spawned, even if it does mean putting up with the behaviour of a few minor members of her family. President Blair? No thanks!

Indeed they did

Trouble was they resulted in Napoleon

Europe at war for years

Death and destruction chaos and anarchy

Similarly when Kaiser given the boot at end of WW1 the result was Hitler with result Europe at war etc etc

At end of WW2 great care taken to keep Emperor of Japan result er rather good really.

Theres a lot to be said for a constitutional monarchy - given a constitution, but thats another story.

Lets explore the implications:
The queen has zero constitutional significance
The Pm (& govt) are the executive operating in the representative chamber.
Historically the representative chamber acted as a check on the executive, ultimately the monarchy. The executive fuctions of the monarchy have no longer exist and the representative house also acts as executive. Therfore there is NO constitutional check upon the executive. Much better to have 2 elected houses, one with executive powers and the other with representational checking powers and consign the present monarchy to the wheelie bin of history.

THe argument , better the Queen than TB or MT has no validity as cos she dont do nuffink it dont matter if she exists or not, constitutionally!

Yes indeed

Seems to be a feature of that generation to make light of their own courage and admire that of others

It is a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

Off with his heid

I say old chap, that's a bit strong. Damn fine woman, HM, where would we be without her. Tony Blair's head on stamps instead of on a pike where it rightfully belongs. The corgi would have become extinct except on gas fitters vans. No Prince of Wails to keep Vanilla Porker Balls off the streets. The Windsor Castle Heritage Centre Experience and Conference Hotel. No Queen's English. No Queen's Arms. No royal yacht (shome mishtake shurely, Ed.). Franklin Mint out of business. Tourists flocking to Buckingham Palace to watch Not The Changing of the Guard. No Christopher Robin, no Alice. The State Opening of Parliament, conducted by the winner of a competition in the Sun. The new Scottish Parliament opened by Billy Connolly.

It would never work.
