Went out today.
A lovely sail, ... Managed to hold the kite past Felixstowe and up to Levengton. Even on white sails we overtook a mobo....
Is there a speed limit on the Orwel?

8kts in Harwich harbour, 6kts in the Orwell. Last week we overheard Harwich VTS reprimanding a vessel, presumably a Mobo, who was doing 17kts. The skipper tried to argue the toss and Harwich firmly said "The speed limit is 8Kts Sir, and you are exceeding it" We heard no more so presumably he slowed down.

Mind you I have seen commercial shipping in the Orwell exceeding 6 kts quite often, they will claim that greater speed is needed to maintain steerage way, maybe true?

Certainly when following the tide it is useful to have more than the minimum speed to help steering. ..

I had hoped someone would have a camera ....
