Just come back from a great week- first channel crossing, visiting Jersey and Guernsey. Fantastic feeling. Departing St Peter Port on Sunday in a glassy sea, coming back home in fine weather and then we felt it- the feeling of rope fouling the props!

No chance of cutting the stuff off or getting the aft prop of the DP leg off. After an hour in the Channel getting hypothermia had to give in and go back at displacement speed.

We have been very unlucky this year, this being the 3rd prop-trashing incident in 160 hrs. We even carry spare props (strictly speaking "carried" since the spares have to go on the leg now...)

I have two questions:

1) Is anyone else this unlucky, or should we just abandon our boat as jinxed and move on?
2) Is there any kind of rope cutter solution for an outdrive that works? The cost of replacement props and shafts is getting pretty painful. After all, if we keep claiming on the insurance, next year we'll be uninsurable!

Thanks!

Happens to us all. Best have SS props as they cope with it better esp cutting ropes. I picked up a rope on the way home (SPP) from Lezardrieux but luckily the SS cut through and only left a bit danglin which I noticed when I stopeed in Havelet.

It wasnt even pot rope more like a nylon stringy stuff.
