I have just returned from a week down the good old Bristol channel with Tug
(who has been AWOL on the forums and chat for couple of months)
The above subject seems quite right for the week and will be expainled below
1) The Good (Service that is!)
Tugs boat broke the key in the prop shaft on route to portishead marina (prop fouled on something) so we aproached the boatyard there to see if he could help us, and the guy was really helpfull and made a new key, cleaned up the coupling and was generaly excellent. He even stayed way past closing time and then only charged Tug a drink for the work. I cannot praise the guy enough for this. It makes such a difference to have excellent service in the marine engineering department.
2) The Bad (Pillocks in motor boats for a change)
We got over to penarth after an excellent trip (Flat calm sea, almost no wind) and arranged to lock thru the cardiff barrage. I had entered the channel to the barrage when all of a sudden i got a moonraker 36 one yard of my transom, i pulled over to let him thru and he just stuck there, I tried to signal him but he was 2 close to see me. If i had stopped suddenly he would have gone straight over me. I know i am not fast, but lets all get in safely please! i only took 3 mins to get in! and there was plenty of room in the locks for all!
3) The Ugly
We then crossed over from penarth to watchet, last year this was an excellent marina, but i was shocked this year with the fall in standards. The showers only had 1 drain and that was blocked so if you showered in that cubicle you had 4 inches of other peoples shower water in there from god knows when. The toilet floor was permantly wet and dirty, and the worst thing of all was the toilets. We arrived Tuesday and they were not cleaned untill sunday. I know this cos i watched the same peice of cr@p on the toilet for 5 days. IMHO i think this is totaly unacceptable (A letter has gone to the owners about this)
The toilet finaly got cleaned on sunday after i repeatedly complained to the staff.
So watchet if you go to watchet!
So what has happened to standards? I try to be nice and considerate to others, but this holiday has *REALLY* tried me!!
