The bare necessities

Electrically or electronically other than engine batteries and navigation lights what do you think are the bare necessities for your boat. What piece of equipment could you not do without (other than your hairdrier or curling tongs).

i know somebody who recently sailed in the NW Scotland lacking many normally useful instruments to navigation and engine performance but he is an ancient mariner of vast experience. an ebespacher would be his 'must have' ....
