Major, don't think we'll agree on this saga but look at the video and from about 19 seconds is it's obvious the AG accelerates into the bows of the whaler which otherwise would have passed cleanly.

VIDEO

I assume they thought their kevlar reinforced boat was indestructible.

We have had 'experts' on here saying it was the Ady Gil's fault

Name the 'experts' you refer to.

I haven't had a close re-read of the thread but most people seem to be in agreement that the blame is shared in some proportion. "Shonan Maru" was wrong to create a close quarters situation and the AG was wrong to accelerate & to turn it into a collision. (Whether accidentally or deliberately)

In contrast you seem to be putting all the blame on the "Shonan Maru" on the (contradictory) basis that the AG was unaware the SM was in front due to being blinded & didn't accelerate. Both of these “facts” are easily shown to be fiction by looking at the video.

T W Sailor,
I think it was a US celeb who put up the money to to buy or lease Earthrace. (Bit self promo, ' doing something for the world') Not so long ago ER were so strapped for cash that they were 'offering' berths for anybody willing to pony up a slice of the next leg.
As a design, interesting. As useful, not. Biodiesel works, no need to spend millions to prove it.

Ouch!!!! .....I bet they're kicking themselves now. I can't see any insurance company paying up, the Japanese are unlikely to held responsible under the law, and the operators are unlikely to pay up.

Perhaps it can be repaired, although there are some reports that it has sunk.

Do you have a clue about what you are talking about? I'm not sure what point you are trying to make about Iceland, but you should probably research the Icelandic cod wars before you reference them. If you're now saying that it's wrong that Iceland defended its unilaterally-declared territorial waters, it hardly supports your argument for Australia to defend its unilaterally-declared territorial waters.

Are you using the royal "we" or do you speak for the Government of Australia? What are you doing about this supposedly illegal act then?

Why...do you know what you are talking about?

If you are not sure about the point I was making about the cod wars....then don't assume anything.....leave it to the clever ones that can.

BTW...who are you?...and why are so keen to find out about me or who I represent?

Do I need to be scared or intimidated?

This thread started with a question about Collision Regulations. It is now obvious that the Regulations do not apply if one vessel deliberately tries to impede another. We are now in the area of debating whether activists have the right to put themselves and others in mortal danger. Unless War is declared I don't think they have that right.
