The adventures of a CLB.

Cripes no Lockies for miles. Wimper ...................

Its merely that down here we are amazed that a member of the over pampered wimpettes club up on the Thames has summoned up the cojones to not only get round here but to venture up the dragon infested bit to Maidstone.
Would also like to comment(after many hints) that B1 coped magnificantly and remained in full command when an actual boat came towards him from the opposite direction .

Not merely Maidstone, if you don't mind, but well beyond into "feckarwe" territory where evidence of life as we know it difficult to observe!
Two whole days without access to any supplies other than Teapot Island (great home made bread pudding £1.20 ) and the Anchor pub (anything you like as long as it's with chips) came as quite a shock to the system

Yeah, man, that's what it's for the rest of the system apart from The Glorious Thames.
We've spent most of our cruising lives on the narrow and not so narrow bits and quicky found that supply point are often days apart and of variable quality. So we (and others) hava adapted by having full size cookers, fridge freezers, wet central and much, much more.

Wouldn't give up the Thames, though.
However, it would appear that the IWA want to change all that and get it taken over by the dreaded CART.

As an aside and to stir it more, I have it on reasonable good authority and partial experience that CARTs volunteer lock keepers are there only to offer advice and guidance - not work the locks for you.

Be warned.

His Mudwayness seems intent on playing Swallows and Amazons so off for a few hours exploring the salty bits shortly.

On a practical note, thought immersion heater was b*gg*r*d but discovered has two thermostats, normal control set at around 60c and an over temperature stat set at around 80c which has a manual reset if it trips. Looks like it tripped due to long running at high temperature of calorifier on trip down last week.

Now as much as I advocate fenders down on the Upper Thames, you really should be removing them whilst underway down there.

Absolute shower!

Ah, but you never know when a raggy might tack into you suddenly, and thus scratch the paintwork!

Nothing ever happens "suddenly" as far as Legacy is concerned, everything must be announced at least 72 hours prior to implementation and preferably with all paperwork in triplicate.
Any deviation from the plan of 5 mins or more is a courts marshall at the very least or a lot of bad humoured grumbling at worst.

The other one has a neat line in interestingly sticky floors.
Who ever cleans the place after the night before obviously only has a thimbleful of water for the entire job.
