EES when arriving by boat?

Oooh yes. Excellent: "If you're in France with a residence permit or long-stay visa, this does not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit...."

Will keep an eye out for an SO 36.2. This is us: Stargazer of Poole. There's a certain tidal logic, if bound south into Biscay, so our paths will likely cross somewhere along the line. You'll know when we arrive in Dieppe because, unless you beat me to it, I'll post here regarding the EES experience.

Off to Rome in a couple of weeks (BA not BoAt) so downloaded the EES app as I saw it becomes fully operational next week. The app says it currently only set up for Sweden and Portugal.

Went in and out of Turin last week—lots of terminals and plenty of English-speaking staff to help the technologically backward. Possibly five minutes of extra time on the way in for registration; no appreciable delay on the way back.

I came through Palma airport yesterday. The taking of fingerprints and a photo worked fine without delay, then onto the e-gate... which took several pictures of my midriff with the wrong camera, flagged a fault and then let me through... after which there was a very bored official stamping everyones passport without question.... progress ...

Ok checked in at Dieppe this morning so have an update.
Advice says “The customs office for Dieppe is reported to be in the ferry terminal” and to go when ferries arrive.
The Douane office is definitely in the ferry building, just go to reception and ask to check in, they will let the Douane know you’re waiting. The terminal is open all day until 8pm, DO NOT go when a ferry arrives or it’ll be busy. They also check in commercial sailors etc. so are happy to do this any time. They did ask if we’d emailed the form but didn’t need to see it.

EES changes - very little. He used a Thales branded (obviously not theirs, but they clearly set up the system) USB scanner to take our finger prints. No stamp needed or available. The whole process took 2 minutes for both of us, five including reception and waiting. Again, this is because the terminal wasn’t full of ferry passengers.

We checked in the day after arrival since we arrived late. Not an issue and everyone relaxed about it. We still have not checked in to the marina as they had computer issues, again not a problem and they freely gave us the code for facilities.

What happens if someone sails to France entering a protocol port by emailed form, cruises for a bit then leaves their boat there for a couple of weeks while they fly home for whatever personal/work reasons, then flies back to resume cruise, eventually checking out of a protocol port by form before sailing back to the UK?

Won't this set up a whole ton of confusion between two completely different systems? Firstly would some official or machine at the French departure airport get upset because your passport lacked a prior entry stamp or electronic record of entry? Secondly would flying back to France then set the 3-month clock ticking while you shortly afterwards blithely sailed your yacht home... leaving you totally skewered when months or years later you next fly back into France for a land holiday or similar?

I dont think you are supposed to mix the two systems.
I remember reading that if you plan to leave by plane or ferry then you can't arrive by protocol port and should be stamped in (or not now that EES is happening)

The rules are quite explicit, you can't do what you suggest. If you're leaving on a commercial route, you have to enter using EES. If you enter on a commercial route you have to exit using EES.

Has there been confirmation that the alternative arrangement is continuing now EES is in place. Stage 2 of the rollout has portable terminals in use.

I'm irish so it doesnt affect me. Wife and i went from portsmouth to caen yesterday and there are no ees stuff at the port.
You may not have seen it, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. The EES at Dieppe is literally a USB fingerprint scanner on the computer they always used before. If you’re an EU citizen they don’t scan you even if you’re not in Schengen.

Amazingly, it seems Dover and Portsmouth both bought EES equipment that can't read the British passport biometric chip. It's being fixed.
Neither are supposed to be doing EES, that’s done in EU with the exception of places like St Pancras where they “move the border”.
Did you mean ETA?

That chip is just NFC, nothing special. The rest is done by the computer so it’s not a hardware issue.
