Officially it’s fingerprint or photo to verify identity but both must be taken on “first” entry. First entry will in practice be the first time they can get you done. That's not what's happening at the moment and contradicts the EU website which states the photo AND fingerprints will be verified.
Also, see French government stating fingerprint is required
Entering the Schengen Area: implementing the future EES and ETIAS systems

It is what’s happening at the moment, perhaps just not to you. Schengen is a big place with lots of points of entry, you will not have much experience in the grand scheme of things so may be done down the definitive statements.
That link said nothing other than what data is collected. If you have a link actually saying otherwise please do post it.ROFL
Okay, the EU EES website, the French government website and the EES technical specification must all be wrong then.
Both the EU website say face AND fingerprints are verified on entry and exit. That link said nothing other than what data is collected. If you have a link actually saying otherwise please do post it.
Our government advises either or on subsequent visits.
EU Entry/Exit System.
Where? Both the EU website say face AND fingerprints are verified on entry and exit.
The tech spec requires a finger print scanner
Nope, they all require a finger print scanner.Where?
The spec for some systems, yes. Not all.
No, I'm quoting the technical requirements document from the EU border agency. You’re reading things that are not there.
First entry requires collection of both, so yes devices will need to be able to collect both. That doesn’t imply anything about subsequent crossings.
I got a definite no in London in December. The French visa is stored in the French system which will not be synced up. Annoying but understandable.I’m in the Wandsworth French long stay visa centre, sorting out a VLS-T. Just asked whether that biometric visa is sufficient for entry, or if a separate ETIAS registration is required. After much debate and input from numerous desk staff, no one knows! Although, as usual, there was a great willingness to help.
The hardware used for entry procedures. As the document says, the hardware must send a fingerprint when it sends a transaction to the central service. So how can you have an entry procedure with no fingerprint if the fingerprint image is required to be sent as part of the entry procedure interaction with the EES service?Yes you’re quoting technical requirements for hardware. This has nothing to do with entry procedures. As I said, you’re reading things that aren’t there.
