We had a great weekend down at Bembridge with no mishaps. We arrived right at the top of the tide and never saw less than 3m under the keel so, given that the channel is so well marked, it was less stressful than coming out of Chichester Marina, when we were dragging the keel (1.3m) through the gunk for a few metres, despite there being allegedly 2m in the channel.

The marina staff got 100% for helpfulness in getting us alongside, talking us (27') into a gap on the pontoon with rafted boats at either end, which felt like it was about 28' long.

The dawg loved it. Straight out of the marina and onto the dunes, so she was able to get rid of all the pent up energy she builds up. We headed up to the Vine in the evening and she got fed biscuits by the bar staff, so she thought it was great.

I missed some of the later comments on the thread because I had to head off, but there were some good tips for the next trip. Baywatch on the Beach looks a good bet for warmer evenings when we can sit outside with the dawg. We'll also try and get some local fish to cook on the marina barbies at some stage.

It's just about a year since I was asking you chaps advice on boats to consider. It's now paying dividends and we're having a fantastic time so, again, thanks a lot!

Good

glad to hear you had a successful trip. Did you take a walk and look at the remains of the channel at low water?

After a successful tripthis weekend, I am ever hopeful of persuading SWMBO that we will not gut sucked into a black hole if we venture out of Chi Harbour, and so we might make it to Bembridge before too long.

I think it's one of the few IoW ports I've never made it too, although I've had a look at the tide guage a couple of times in other boats.

Ventnor is a must at some point, but it'll have to be with a different crew.

That's a matter of opinion!

What little room there is inside is now bisected by a landing stage about where the yellow boat is in this pic!

The walk along the foreshore at half tide, along to the Lifeboat station and the Crab & Lobster (excellent beer and food), overlooking Bembridge Ledge, is also not to be missed.
