I’ve been looking for a Rib and quite like the Avon R220, as it seems to about the smallest model on the market and wont look to ridiculous on the back of my boat. The only problem with it is that it doesn’t come with a seat for rowing (despite being supplied with oars!).

Does anyone know of an alternative rigid hulled inflatable, with a seat but no bigger than the Avon?

Thanks

valiant

The Valiants have a GRP seat. They're lighter than the Avon too, and well built imho. I have had 2. At that size range, I would definaitely get Valiant over Avon. There's nowt bad about Avon, it's just the Valiant is lighter/cheaper and generally better imho

Valaint have a website, google will find. Barnet Marine sell them, good prices and will deliver anywhere, again google for info, they're on Greenhill Parade, Barnet, London

Think you could go bigger if you want, I have a Avon 3.1 RIB on a 44ft boat, looks fine IMHO.

You dont need a seat if you get an outboard, much easier than rowing.

Ideally wanted an outboard and the ability to row, if poss.

Will check out Valiant, someone told me they didn't go quite this small. Bathing platform is only 2.3m x .6.

Re: valiant

Rather Randomly that's a very good bit of info for me at the moment - I managed to break the GRP seat on our Valiant Rib 2 weeks ago, so need a new one.

Before anyone asks if it was because it's cheap and nasty, the answer is no - I think that it was more of a hint to get down the gym more...oops

Cheers for that

Ben

ps regarding the original post, we have had 3 dinghys so far, an avon (good, but expensive - and with a rubbish inflatable seat, a zodiac (cheap, but there is a reason for that) and the aforementioned Valiant (which thus far has been excellent)

Cheap Zodiac...

Well..it was poo...

Cheap crappy oars with no handles, cheap crappy rowlocks (not sure how to spell that) that came out and were easy to lose - but then the avon's were even worse, cheap crappy half solid half not (arrrgh that's my toe under that plank) floor, chap crappy bung that fell apart, chap crappy tubes that were too susceptible to leaks, cheap crappy repair kit that failed after a month to repar said leaks.

However, that said it was a sort of OK dinghy and did last us almost eight years and looked pretty good too.

Do I take it you have a Zodiac? Sorry if so, nothing personal.

Re: valiant & Barnet Marine

Thought about that and a mate of mine who knows about these things said it could/maybe/possibly be reparied, but then again cos the crack is almost all the way through it might not work.

To be frank it would cost me more in lost work time and hassle to get it done, and it's all ordered and paid for now.

Apologies for negativity, and thanks for the thought.

Re: Cheap Zodiac...

Yes, i got a new Zodiac 260 last year, and i am very pleased with it.
It is my first dingy, so i can't compare it with anything, But looking around at others in my marina, it certainly seems one of the best. The oars and Rowlocks are fine on mine.
I can't fault it at all.

Re: Cheap Zodiac...

Yup

Me too Alistairr - brill Zodiac 285 S now 4 years old. Has the panelled floor and inflatable keel and we get 15 knots wot from a Merc 6hp 4 stroke. Not rib standard mind but great fun all the same.

Re: Cheap Zodiac...

Must have got better with time then, but I suppose what hasn't - have to say I am surprised you need a dinghy on Loch L, will still be fun tho - I love pottering about in ours once anchored up, especially as I now have one that can get on the plane (just).

I have 2 Valiants - excellent RIBs and good value.

I have one for sale if you are interested. It is the 2.7 metre and is only 1 year old. If not they do a smaller one, but it is really small and not worth it IMHO (you will only want a bigger one next year). The 2.7 sat on our Princess 32 and looked fine.

I have sent you a PM
