A possible plan this weekend involves bringing a mate and his dog on board the boat, somewhere around the bottom end of the Beaulieu. Either anchored in the lower east/west reach or possibly using the visitors' moorings on the corner.
2hp outboard on the tender, so more range than rowing but less than planing, especially with two largish blokes and a dog.
Snooping around with Google Maps I can see that almost every point of access from a road to the water is either someone's garden or behind a gate festooned with "Private! Keep Out! CCTV In Operation!" signs. The two exceptions are the eastern end of Lepe Beach by the little lighthouse, which is a bit of a trek from the moorings if I'm up that way and potentially wet across the open mouth of the river, and the Royal Southampton's Gins Farm satellite clubhouse.
I don't know the club, or the site apart from what's visible from the river, so my main question is what their attitude is likely to be to someone parking a car there and then using the slipway to get out to a nearby yacht. Are they protective of their facilities, or happy to help out fellow yachtsmen? I know some might suggest using the clubhouse bar by way of "payment", but we don't really want the complication especially with a young dog, just a quick dinghy pick-up.
Alternatively, any other suggestions? It's probably going to be low tide-ish, which I think rules out the place where Inchmery Lane touches the water, on the north side of the river opposite Gull Island.
