The end of the ram is tapped the same thread as the nut on the cable so simply screws on, the new ram cannot be secured as it moves in a slight arc as the steering turns. There is usually a couple of flats on the power ram that need to be in roughly the correct orientation, probably vertical not 100% sure on volvo but merc is vertical and its a very similar system
Tnx, yeh thought as much, but wanted to be sure b4 i ripped it all apart !
‘undo the large nut at the back of the ram & remove the split pin and clevis pin that attaches the inner cable to the steering arm. Once the nut is undone & clevis pin is removed you can then slide out the cable leaving the power assistance ram in situ‘
So the split pin and the clevis pin are to be found on the starboard side of the assistance ram, inside the fitting once i have undone the large nut on the starboard side ?
