targa 40 or princess v42

Just had a look and again its got curved seating on the cockpit I cant stand curved seating this is what is sopping me buying a Targa 43

I have a Targa 43. It is head and shoulders above both the other two boats. Next class up IMHO. Not so sporty feeling but overall a great 'planted' boat with shafts. I had a V40 with sunpad option and no garage before so I have the experience to comment.
V40 is a great sports type boat, classic looks, good accommodation, well built and and the outdrives give a different feeling to a shaft driven boat as you might well know but a T43 feels two steps up the ladder in comparison. A big boat feel in a relatively small hull with a well deserved reputation for handling heavy weather.

You really need to try and accept the round cockpit and saloon seating otherwise your'e missing out on a true classic Fairline. We seat 6 in comfort around the cockpit table even if it is circular. If you like the way your P40 drives then a T43 will feel very similar but gives you the sports cruiser style that you want.

Fwiw as a former t 40 owner I thought the t43 was a smashing boat. I am not really sure why they stopped making it. The main thing that would put me off is their age now.

I Mallorca there are dozens of them.

I don't doubt the targa 43 is a great boat and has shafts and with tam 75 will go very well

But I don't like the curved seating in the saloon or the cockpit and I don't like that there is no seat port side to lounge on for swmbo whilst I am at the helm, I wish I could bring myself to like them but I just cant

I love the galley on the targa 43 but I cant buy a boat and part with around 150k unless I am completely happy with it, I know I will never get everything I want in my budget but the princess v42 and targa 40 tick more boxes for me personally (well I think they do )

IIRC a few V42's were built with shafts. They weren't popular because they were more expensive, and buyers of new boats generally wanted the extra space and speed you get with outdrives, and didn't worry too much about repair costs as they were getting warranties. It may make a good used boat though if you can find one.

An expensive boat to build, by the time they were a real hit Princess were building virtually the same size boat on drives which saves thousands to them on build price, then they introduced the v45 with hard top which was on drives. The big TAMD 75s , gearboxes and shaft set up costs a fortune to install compared to sterndrive set up, so it was flawed as people wanted a hard top and more room internally with ensuing aft cabin, having both heads upfront is old hat these days, even the targa 52 has both heads upfront which in this day isn't what people want. Targa 43 is a great sea boat with its weight right where it's needed, trims well, vision great. Shawn get one bought, need I say more other than I know where there is a real minter.

I am not sure what I am changing too yet but we want a sports boat as we are fed up of not being able to use the fly for 5 month of the year and then its cold for 3 of those months but I think we may need to go bigger than 40ft

So my kids are 4 and 7 - just ask them where they want to be!

It is a genuine holiday as opposed to time on the boat - and flights are not that bad - we do it all the time.

I appreciate each to their own but if the issue is the weather is **** - then stick it on a trailer and move it!

About 70 liters per hours at 25 knots versus 120 lph with the 46 Portofino at 23 knots. Average but I am not far away.

You should get better speeds and same consumption with the Portofino if you find one of the latest ones with the D11s.

But remember stern drive service each year with Fairline 40 Targa or similar, and shafts with the Portofino.

cheers for that my head is spinning in finding my next boat, I thought I had dismissed the portofino but swmbo really likes the interior space, but I like the idea of a newer, smaller, faster, more economical boat but like she says we don't go far and we will always benefit from the extra space on board when in the marina, I so wish I could afford a targa 47 lol

Is this correct? I thought the D11 didn't come along until after Sunseeker had replaced the Portofino 46 with the 47.
