True on both counts, they are utterly pointless!

It will be interesting to see which bites the dust first; my new wiper nozzles or my new drink holders.

The things I did to mine which were inexpensive were : -

- replaced perspex drinks holders with Teak ( I did my current boat in stainless )
- i put LED strip in blue under the backrests ( as in the bottom of them) of the cockpit seating which looked nice
- Ice maker in the locker to the RHD of the grill ( Queue Jimmy the builder telling me I always mention my ice maker - its important!)
-TVs in the cabins ( you probably have this anyway)
- Reversing camera built into the metal grill in the tender garage
- Ebay plastic washing machine in the engine room. Mine was carp but they now do them that are pumped drain so you can install it properly and for us with kids it was very useful


Thats most i can think of. You will also need to change the lighter socket for a USB socket so you can charge your phone (£5 on eBay) It was all cheap and simple to do ( cant say that about a boat very often)

The only deign fault it had that I never fixed was the plate holder gets full of water from sink spills and drying washing up. I always meant to put a drain in it but never got round to it.

Have fun - the benchmark is Jimmy's that is actually a Targa 42 with its large bathing platform!

So, the teak replacements - where did you get them made up? My wife has just said it’s a must!!!
 
Why don't drinks-holders get used on boats? I can't remember using them on any of my boats but, maybe because I've spent too much time in the land of the free, my ranking of rental cars starts with great cupholders.

Because:

a) they are only about 25mm deep so provide no stability for the glass
b) too small for a can and too large for a tumbler
c) in the wrong places (behind where you sit)

I addressed a and b by copying Perspex outline to stainless steel and having precision cut for cans and beer bottles so stayed in place well.

Re c then not ideal for when sat at table but positioned ok for lounging

Jimmy. I am gobsmacked ! How on Earth you found that!

I probably thought it was the same Howells to be honest !

I think reflecting on Pete’s comment that if you got them made In teak putting another” ring “ on it so it was taller and gripped a can would be a good idea. In fact making the hole beer can size would also be a bright idea

Yep when you floated this idea a few years ago I did a redesign with some usefully-sized holes, but never pursued it. I could do with similarly remaking the drinks holder on the coachroof as well, but it isn't a high priority.
