£18 for my 30 footer.
Its a case of stump up and bear it for me as Tarbert is the nearest point to my mooring where I can stock up on water and fuel. I normally go in for a couple of hours but a fornight ago had just had a long haul up from Sanda so it was worth it.
The diesel is a fair bit cheaper than Largs, so that's a compensation.
A quick comparison with other stop-offs: Largs £22. Lamlash £10 on a mooring, Campbeldown £11 (could find no places offering showers) Ballycastle at £16 was probably best value with free showers and the harbourmaster telling me where there was credit on a power pylon.
Portavadie is offering free day-stops in the first year of operation and that might have an effect on Tarbert pricing. I might just be getting bunkerage there and hopping over to Tarbert on the ferry.
Come on guys - it's a free market. Let these quays charge what they want.
If they charge so much that their total income goes down, they'll reduce prices. If they charge so much that their profits go through the roof, they'll expand the facilities to meet the demand.
If you want prices to go down, reduce the demand. Ban any further sailors from visiting the area. Mandate a cull of vessels - say 1/10 to be scrapped or banished. Make the weather worse . . . ban all alcohol on all vessels . . . close all quayside pubs and restaurants . . . never clean public showers and loos . . . more ideas please!
Make the weather worse - jings, d'ye no think we've sufficient problems in Scotland - anyways - whit's it to you living in Greece - we're only happy when we're having a moan about prices. Quite like th idea of a boat cull though - how do you think we could get it started?
