TAMD61A injector removal tool anyone?

Well Ian is very kindly sending me his.

I can’t thank him enough and it looks a great bit of kit.

I’ll take some dimensions from it. No doubt between us we can provide the details.....unless Ian has a patent of course :)

So your dealer buys the tool which is part of his agreement with Volvo to have and then lends it to the customer who uses when the dealer does not require it sounds simple but it rarely works that way .
The only way you can do it as a dealer is if it’s a tool that is rarely used and only if you know you won’t require it and the customer can’t break it or you keep tools simply as a service for customers.
You come along and say can I borrow your injector removal tool so that I can take them to some one else to service ? Because I do all my own work and only buy the parts that I can’t easily get cheaper elsewhere

Dealers do discount tools I know I’ve got quite a few.
The particular injector tool for removal isn’t that good , I’ve got through 2 in the last 5 years as the thread pics up , it’s then stiff to use and more or less useless .

The 10% rule is a great idea until you get one that’s been overused and then it doesn’t work , the 41A tool is useless as it’s made of metal that resembles a bean can .

You could always employ the tradesman who has worked his ass off to buy the tools you want to borrow, you wouldn't need to take up their time asking them how to do it also! Geeez! :rolleyes:

I would gladly have Paul come and do this job in a heart beat. Unfortunately living in the middle of the Irish Sea makes that tricky.

What makes it worse is that he was onboard last year with these very tools in hand and ready to go. I just couldn’t afford the injector refurb costs at the time.

I have tried local trades people (there are 2 over here) neither have the kit including the volvo chap.

I’m not tying to do anyone out of a living. Just trying to take care of my boat, the best I can, within my means.

Glad to hear that Tools are discounted now my experience is nearly 10 years out of date

I totally understand but you need to source the tools from someone other than a tradesman. Let's say Paul posts you his tools, the second they are out of his hands he is potentially loosing business and money because he no longer has the ability to work on his customers boats. He would not know if he wasn't going to need the tool, just that he might need it. Lets say half an hour after he posted said tool, one of his long standing, or indeed new customers calls up with an urgent job needing doing requiring the tool, he would have to let them down because you have the tool and Paul cannot even give his customer a date when he could do the job because he has no idea how long you would keep his tools. So now not only loosing his living but potentially loosing customers to his rivals.
It's nothing personal towards you, it's just what i said in post #10, You just cannot ask to borrow a tradesmans tools, it's just not the done thing.

No issue borrowing my home made one mate .. I get it posted today or early tomorrow. I don't need it for work so keep it as long as you need it and if anyone else could do with it after they are welcome. There is no patent on my design so feel free to copy and improve.

A big thankyou to Ian. His removal tool worked perfectly. Couple of hours and all 12 injectors out.

An hour of that time was however spent fishing a socket wrench out from down the side of the engine!

No drama, no moving sleeves...perfect. I’ll take some dimensions and post them on this thread should anyone else want to make one :encouragement:

I hope putting them back in and running up is as straightforward :):):)
 
Good that all went well. What brought the need to remove injectors. Sorry if you'd already explained.

Smokey at startup.....no idea if they’ve ever been done and I’m just over 1000 hours.....volvopaul was onboard when I started up and said it was a good idea :):):)

The last one was reason enough

I took some pictures of the injectors just after I removed them so will try to upload them. When carbon is falling off, I’m guessing it’s not ideal!
