Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

I have not heard that the custard has arrived.

However, there is a 15-20% chance that I can get to Norway this weekend. And I will be in the UK tonight. #Custard.

Final Bill came in for the Yard. Not as bad as indicated. And that is damn exciting.

Interior team from NZ may go to Norway now instead of Greece. We'll see. That means that the forum cruise/beers may be a little more comfortable/less industrial than previously provisioned.

Hope all is well. Still looking for a deck solutuon at scale... if anyone has suggestions?

I'm having withdrawal symptoms, due to no new posts on this thread for 2 days. I might stop losing interest in the mobo forum if I don't hear any more soon.

I want to know if the endurance trials on the tender have been conclusive. I want to know if the custard has arrived. I want to know how long before the lights go out if you turn off all the generators.

This is all crucial stuff, you know. :)

Angele!

Apologies - I had not seen your post, or the subsequent ones.

[Again]... i was not wanting to continue posting if everyone had found the topic stale.

Looks like we've managed to solve the berthing problem up there. Which is great. No news that the dinghy has been tested yet. I am certainly keen to see a video of it in action. Being lifted on and off the boat in particular.

The ex-Chief Engineer has been sent on an important job to West Africa I'm told. So things appear to have slowed to a recreational pace in his absence. Heavy sigh. But looking forward to seeing more photos and more progress from now on.

This forum is right... if there are no photos, there is no progress. #Tighten-Up-on-the-#DelegatedExpectations-Rulebook!!! (A hashtag within a hashtag. Maybe a world first!).

Very keen also to know how long the lights will stay on once the generators go quiet..... suspect 0:0:00 at this point... but would have thought there is emergency lighting..... or some form of uninterruptible power supply on the bridge at least.

Thanks for the interest. A new financial year begins on Saturday, and therefore, a new budget too... :-) looking forward to warm weather!

Semi serious suggestion - karndean or amtico vinyl floor tiles? Or more seriously some sort of fake teak?

Thanks Julians;

Your link redirects me back to this page.

Is it me? Sorry for the bother.

I did look at getting the main hull covered in vinyl branding for the America's Cup. Alas.. the main exterior now has Zero chance of being complete befor then, so we'll see what happens.

Might well be that the shake down cruise is to Witherspoons in Gosport.

Teak deck
How are you gonna reconcile the Eco side of that material ?
There are 3rdy world bribery and corruption issues -Bermese teak is said to be the best .
Deforestation issues ?
Are you bothered ? ---- or turning a blind eye like the rest of us -not being judgemental -just wondering how deep you have researched teak in leisure boats .
East African "farmed " teak is an alternative ,but not as good and many builders hide hehind the fact it's suppose to be sustainable --

Practically I would make enquires to a big German yard that builds superyachts ,for the supplier or even instal --if you go to them -quit easy from Norway .

Just hope no one brings the subject up at a dinner conversation -- or have a prepped answer --which is -------?

At the moment... it's kind of in the same bucket as steel... it just comes from somewhere, but at least my steel was second hand (though, had it been recycled... maybe less could have been mined; hard to know how deep to go).

Is Burmese as in Burma/Myanmar? I went there 10 years ago for a look. Quite the surreal place.

I am pretty sure the teak they use now days is much thinner than it used to be.. but I hear you. Felling wild forests is not welcome.

Fake teak is therefore a very acceptable option, as is paint... but I'm sure many have been at this cross roads before and have come up with a considered solution?

Not that im into digging up dead dinosaur plankton either, to burn diesel or make plastics.

The sooner we can get to fusion the better.

I was actually up in a former soviet state looking at molecular fusion shielding last year... the words sound far more complex than what we had in mind... but it was still fun. Maybe one day, #bouyancygeneratorsforthewin!

Yay! You are back. :encouragement:

But none of this boring stuff about flooring replacement, please. Too mundane. I can read about that sort of stuff on the Practical Boat Owner forum. This thread needs to retain its uniqueness, covering issues that take us out of this world into something altogether more ...... fantastic !

Molecular fusion shielding sounds much more like it.

As it happens, I'm evaluating the very same alternatives right now, and I asked for views in this thread.
Fwiw, the stuff I'm very oriented to use is a paint (sort of) called KiwiGrip, and according to their instructions it works also on steel.
If you would decide to go for it, before buying tons of the stuff for your decks drop me a PM - I might be interested to add a few Kgs for my new toy to your bulk purchase... :D

Lols.

Okay okay.. we'll get back there; it's been all about the R&M for the past 3 months, not the R&D side which is more exciting, i do grant you!!

The level of R&D also happens to be goverend by my own availaibilty; which is focussed elsewhere for now.

As the forum learned, alonside my discovery that getting that dinghy back to the ship cost me almost £18,000 in staff time, hotel costs, restaruants and ferry rides (to name a few categories) - rather than the £4,985 professional shipping quote, you can see why I prefer that everything can be done myself.

Bring on the Nauti-jarvis..!! (though the batteries become comical with that power drain).

So for now, I'm stuck at the office working on extremely cool things (that cannot be shared in a forum sadly) - and am restricted to actual boat things, that help us get summer-ready, or hypothetical technology prospects....

Maybe.. MAYBE.... in the next few weeks... we'll see the engines going again...

Fingers crossed for me that I can nip up to Norway tomorrow night...!

R.

Easiest way there may be LON to Copenhagen and then onto Haugesund ... saves the hours long car/ferry journey ... and Haugesund Airport is on Karmøy, so a short 35 min drive from the boat...

Lols...!

Great info.

Cant seem to find an amazing connection... although i was thinking i should fly into Stavanger, and be picked up by my amazing 5.7l v8 47knt 500nm capable bat-boat and be home in 20 minutes, no? Even if it is dark...!

#NightVision!!!

Please start calling it a RIB (or a RHIB if you must). The poor thing is a lot more than a dinghy (at least the inflatable kind). I think whichever crew member takes it out will be sad inside if you suggest he/she "takes the dinghy out" as well.

Apologies!

Didn't know the sizing rules.

A RIB to me is a small inflatable that is generally used to play in the surf, like a thundercat. I thought tender, but wikipedia says that's more for fleet tenders...

It also said bumboat... a perversion of the dutch or something, "boom boat".

The Wikipedia page shows the changi village bumboats, which ove been on many times down in Singapore.

I need a name for this RIB/tender/dinghy that captures the story of how it came to my life... can i call it a bumboat?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumboat refers to scavenging and fleet tenders on the thames...

Any suggestions?

Is it improper to name such a craft?

I had a word with Haslar marina and it may well be possible to fit you in there subject to your final dimensions and the weather. In strong winds weight becomes a factor.

If you are in the UK and fancy something to eat we are on the boat in the Hamble until Saturday AM then Gosport Sat / Sun. Send me a private message via the forum. Both locations are easy enough to reach from London, about an hour and a half by car.

I do have spare custard on board which you are more than welcome to take away with you :)

Henry :)
