Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

Seems to be awful quiet round here!! :D

You mean that CR has not been in touch about Guard Aleta delivery? Well well, who would have guessed it?

Even more surprisingly I suspect he doesn't actually own that vessel. And still no news about the 7m 47kt RIB. Maybe he's too busy meeting all those prime ministers and head of central banks;)

He's probably had a lot of homework this weekend

Indeed it does. He said he had another boat and to google it with his name, I did. He said it was in a sorry state but i think i found it, it's a charter boat in Aus. (google name, click on Wikki, last bit "Where is the boat now") https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condor_(yacht) Also, after re-reading the thread it was concluded this was the guy because he deleted is facebook account........was this a verified account or a parody account? (no custard, no believe) I may be wrong but i still have very strong doubts, it just doesn't add up in the slightest.

Hi Guys,

Been in China.

The national Firewall there makes the internet difficult.

I had thought the thread had died of natural causes, lack of inertia. I'd said my good-byes!

Also, saw the wiki link. Again, thanks for the helpful link post.... but that's not quite the correct one, for what it's worth. It's very close though - yet it's still my seemingly subtle (!?) request to "look, but don't post if possible".

I am sure i wont need to post external validation like i have been after the forum cruise, as the upcoming "moment of custard" will be one of the greatest moments in YBW forum history (one small step for C_R, one giant leap for man) - but I'm also still just a bit keen not to post external details, Please. Even if i set that sharing precedent by over sharing my Bio, long ago.

Also... the FB account wasnt deleted, but the security settings to an individual photo held by Facebook, was revoked... that one photo was individually linked here by a contributer... so now it's not public.

Ive not yet heard from the boat, bit busy with work; but will keep everyone up to speed.

You've actually got the wrong boat. I'm not going to post a link because the OP specifically asked not to and whatever your thoughts it seems only fair to show the same decency you would anyone else on here.

I too saw the boat you linked to but looked a little harder. The boat you're looking for would appear to be languishing in Thailand, or certainly the last reports of it were in Thailand. If it's Dad's boat then let's allow Dad some privacy.

I have no idea if CR exists, is in a lunatic asylum or indeed should be in a lunatic asylum but owns 400 tonnes of former supply tanker instead but there's enough meat on the bone to live in hope. Besides, if it all evaporates it was a bit of excitement before the boating season kicks in.

Henry :)

LMAO, I hope he doesn't mind me saying that if he does own 400T of former supply tanker, I can't think of many better reasons why he should DEFINITELY be in a lunatic asylum... :D
Mind, not that he's so out of place here, anyway!

Says the man who's going to strip all that GORGEOUS wood off his new toy.;)

How can any boat owner accuse another of being mad? Surely we are all Crazy, it's just a case of by how much.

I always say boating is the bit of insanity that keeps me sane!

Henry :)

Thanks Henry,

I actually, really appreciate that.

Hey MapisM,

Yeah, I can't defend the madness of boats.

I just hope the converse is true. The rumor was clearly that Boat Owners have two best days in their lives, the day they buy their Boat(s), and the day they sell them. When I was talking to the extremely nice guy we mentioned eariler regarding the Aras (74m 1931) he agreed with my concern that although people who bought large boats only seem to get to use them 2-3 weeks a year (my concern) he countered with genuine compassion saying that of all the owners he met, they would say it was the only time they really felt "away" or 'really, genuinely relaxed and disconnected from the office' - which he said, balanced for them all the other endless frustrations of being an absentee boat owner for 50 weeks per year, and why boat owners kept coming back, despite all the logic that says 'for the love of god, rent the three Fs'.

Also - I'm very interested in your other post on the foredeck project for two reasons: a. Some within the family think the previously mentioned wooden boat (which was in S.E.Asia, but is now in Italy thanks to Seven stars (?) Yacht Transport company) should be reverted to classic racing format from the 1970s, with non-skid decks and a carbon fibre mast.

I like the teak.

Also, reason b. - for the 400 or 800 tonne of former supply ship we discuss here, i think she'd look a treat with teak; although i was watching a time lapse of the Noordam (?) leaving Sydney Harbour... and their foredeck was beige paint. Which wasnt awful.

Crew with camera are finally back....

Maybe we leave this weekend, weather dependant.

Far from claiming to be an expert on that, but my understanding after speaking with several folks who are - both builders and refitters - glassing a deck which was originally built in wood (I mean, with structural beams and planks, not just with a teak layer on top of a GRP/steel/alu deck) is never a good idea.
The huge risk is that any slightest detachment between the resin on top and the teak planks underneath becomes an area where condensation and moisture gets trapped, progressively getting larger and eventually finding its way inside the seams and possibly rotting the beams underneath - which essentially means a full deck rebuild. And that ain't trivial! :(
Of course, in a very well made job, the adhesion between the two materials should be 100%, but a boat can flex, and is exposed to the elements, so it's just a matter of when this process will start, not of if...
'fiuaskme, I would have never considered doing on my old timber boat what I'm going to do on the new (to me) one.

Otoh, I have no clue about masts.
I see no reason why a wooden one couldn't be replaced by carbon fiber (or alloy, whatever), but I'm saying this just based on common sense.

LOL, you answered your own question, I reckon. Who better than a boater can accuse another boater of being mad...? :D :p

The boat was supposed to be ready to go to Greece for its hull fairing and cosmetic work in November.

Got frustrated and sent two crew to push it forward in december.

She got ready to leave by mid Jan, but we did a surity dry dock and such first. Then the two new crew decided they wanted a bigger tender... and went to England by truck to pick it up.

Truck ended up towing the tender (7m RIB...) back on a trailer. Trailer axle broke in Hamburg. So they drove back to the UK to pick up a new Axle. And are now there. After a month of trying.

While away, boat got a sea-trials paint job and refloated. No custard... limited photos

Plan was to get it to Greece and have had the interior and exterior styling complete for a trip to ANZAC cove for April 25th. Big day if you're from so far south.

Take it for a two week tour; se what we liked/don't like, and then finalise 2 more months of work (if any changes are made)... then enjoy for July through September.... before thinking about another winter in EU or beginning the trip down to the Pacific via the Caribbean season.

At this point...

I would just be happy to be able to use it...!

Interesting that your crew could not find an axle for an Indespension Rollercoaster 6 trailer when back in England, maybe they should have tried Indespension, a UK company.

I am of course assuming that the RIB pic you posted in the last day or so, which is sitting on an Indespension trailer, is the same as the one mentioned in your post above? Btw that helm seat looks to be as uncomfortable as they come, especially for a 47kt power boat. I can't imagine anyone wanting to sit in it for 20 minutes, let alone 12 hours!

Awesome! Indeed one and the same.

They got to Hamburg... then had to go back to Manchester to get the new axle.. issues were to do with the newer bigger engine.

Pleased you have such a keen eye.

:-)

Fair advice.

The boat's first mast was carbon back in the 70s (was the first raceboat to have a CF mast I believe).... just got a bill for the seacocks/through hulls. €19k.

Feels like Christmas. :-O
