Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

If you choose Dover as a stopover, I live only 40 mins away.

I'll personally come down and donate 24 x 300g tubs of Birds Custard Powder to ensure there is ample available for photos and eating for the total voyage ! My custard is my bond :-)

I do agree with Henryf though that the 'facebook challenge' is the 21st century equivalent, but for a laugh it'd be a shame to miss this opportunity.

Minties wouldn't necessarily be universal currency in the same way Birds Custard is but it does show a New Zealand connection.

If martians landed and took this thread as a snapshot of humanity we would be in trouble. Can you prove you aren't an alien?

Henry :)

And do you know the most ironic thing, Birds Custard is actually Custard substitute developed by a chemist in Birmingham because his wife was allergic to eggs which are traditionally used to thicken real Custard.

I'm allergic to Custar_ can't even type it without feeling seasick. It's all in the mind but very real especially if it's rough.

Don't worry, H.
I already suggested to my K-Pax fellow citizens that planet Earth is just a funny place full of weird people, not even remotely worth their attention.
And that was 15 years ago, right after joining this forum and seeing what the locals are like - Lounge included, heaven forbid!
I'm just beginning to be a bit nervous now, because they seem to have forgot to bring me back home... :cool:

I know of two other aliens.....one is in New York....the other is on another planet.:)

=============

Right... made some time to re-read the whole thread. Did YBW go through and clean it up a bit? It seems much less controversial than we all seem to think.... apart from the aliens, spitting Itallians, and a few waves of disbelief around the 1/4 and 1/2 way marks, it's a good and consistent read. I feel i was perhaps a bit overly defensive about my privacy... apologies to all there; the threads are pretty tame!

============

Thanks for all the offers to join in on the journey. I'll hope to know by Friday what the plans are. Heading into a busy 3 days here - so apologies if I don't come back on anything for a short while.

My friends from NZ just said she's "a lot bigger" vessel than their 100 footer, and are feeling a bit cautious about doing it without me..... so we seem to be discussing avoiding the English Channel or the tides of Scotland.... (following the plan, successfull executed of course, of the Armada all those years ago?).

They're still keen to do many stops, but are just nervous about navigating it in close quarters with English tides.... (experts required!).

-------------------

Anyway. More updates will come.

Witherspoons in Gosport definitely has my vote.

Safe sailing in the mean time, I hope to see lots of you soon;

R.

So what qualifications does the Captain hold? Do you have a qualified crew large enough to operate the vessel legally?

Capital_R - Keep me updated with dates / locations and i'll act as 'crew' for as much of the trip as possible....

Worst case scenario and you're a troll I get a free flight somewhere :D :D

I'm sure CapitalR has said he holds all the necessary tickets to drive this "yacht". Anyone know what his minimum crewing requirements should be?

Guess that with 500GWT + here, you will need a full commercial master ticket (means you will have served for at least 12 months as part of your training as "master" on a 3+ 1 year course) ... you probably will need another qualified (served time) deck officer as a backup and for navigation if your intention is to run a 24 hr operation, or is at risk of doing so... for insurance reasons, I would also wish to have a a certified deck-hand as a deck supervisor for any amateurs who may be joining in on this voyage and who might be handling any lines during mooring etc.... Any deck officers will have done full the full 12 month serving as part of their cadet training. This one comes fully under IMO so a 100% bridge watch will probably also be required....

Let's hope his crew get back after their month long trip finding an axle for the trailer. Seems to have gone quiet about the super RIB, was it 47kts for 12 hours:encouragement:

Forgot to mention that with so much dispensable fuel on board there will probably be tanker certification requirement for both master and crew, additional vessel certification and mandatory certified fire fighting crew qualification requirements etc.

In respect to voyage planning and reportig, there will be reporting requirements at each intended port as per the vessels DNV Classification, and I am sure that each port visited will be very interested in inspecting the vessels current and up-to date crew and ship certificates etc.... page 16 here will describe some of the current documentation she needs to carry ... https://rules.dnvgl.com/docs/pdf/DNV/rulesship/2003-01/ts701.pdf
