Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

New Question!

A while back, someone mentioned they might like to help move from Stavanger to Patras.

It's a 3,100 mile trip. We could go either via Dover or Via the Isle of Man.

She won't fit through the french canals, I'm sure of it.

Is anyone actually avaible to come help?

I'll shout airfares - And you can stay on in Greece as long as you like.... within reason.

Key skills sought is knowledge is confidence and the ability to tell a good yarn.

Maiden voyage for us... so should be a bit of a blast. I imagine we'll only take on 30,000 liters of fuel for this tho.... as she'll go into refit in Patras when she gets there....

But are people keen?

The 80' sail boat may arrive in Greece at the same time (intend to park both alongside each other) - so some sailing may occur, depends on the state of the sail boat.

Any volunteers?

Anyone actually keen and available?

One double cabin (taken)
3x Single Cabins (middle deck)
4x bunk beds (main-deck)
6x rack beds down stairs above the waterline (space for 200 is stripped out at the moment).

What a fantastic and generous offer.

I would love to come, but I am afraid I am still a slave to work....:(

Capital_R, I read this thread from the very beginning and I labelled you as a prototype time waster. I am still pincing myself whether this can be true, your writing style feels just so trollish! No offense intended.

Ohh, anyway. You want to move to the Ionian, so I feel obliged to answer (my boat is based 60NW NW of Patras). So who is supposed to carry out your refit in Patras??

Patras with wind:

Gosh... A+ for stamina reading this all the way through....!

Patras with wind:

Jesus. I've never seen waves like that in Patras.

That's a great video - scary for the marina there; damn..! Thats only about a 60cm storm surge too.... hardly anything!

We wouldn't fit in there, we'd be down on the old dock (700m west south west) on Saint Nicholas' Pier.

We'ce got a firm coming in to do the work, then an interior company to do the internal finishing.

External - we'll see. The port agent promises us good workers. Time will tell. For dry docking, it'll be down near Athens somewhere. Ive been given the quotes.... but am going to take it slow.

I was in Patras in January, looking at the docks... that marina rolls even when the ferries come in at about 5 knots... I've been on that little breakwater.... but the main shipping harbour breakwater is a lot bigger.

Taking pictures. Saw nothing like the movies you draw on Hardmy. That's something. But yes, the boat marina is a bit flimsy.

Other pics wont upload....

Writing style... you guys are getting me middle of the night my time... so it's a bit horrid. And I apologise for that.

I stand by my initial feeling about you... Bonkers!
But clearly wealthy.
Wealthy and bonkers is a good combination. I think I like you :D

Would you be doing this in one go, or stopping off on the way? I can imagine many people could potentially make it if there were some separate legs involved. All the way sounds like it'd take a while -- a month?

I expect you would have trouble pretty quickly trying the French canals (both draft and air draft). Would be interesting to see where it could go inland though.

13 days @10kts by my calculations. (non stop)

Defo come via the Isle of Man. Much nicer than Dover!

If you make it end of may, start of June, there may be a little motobike racing to watch :)

Capital_R - I'd defo be interested.

PM me dates!

As asked, would it be done in one go? It's a lot of time to take off.

Quite.
There is someone, I'm lead to believe, that is rather interested in this thread and may even be following it as we speak.....I really hope he is the real deal...I'd hate to think the nice folk on this forum were being fooled because of someone's warped idea of fun.

To be fair, no one is being fooled.

It's giving us all a bit of entertainment.

If the guy is for real, the boat will be a great asset to the community and may even inspire forum cruise-in-companies.

If he's a troll.... well, we still got entertainment :D

Haha!!
Great post.
At Henry f; Well done on the time and effort for doing a 'first' custard on this forum

dear all,

as a bloody foreigner I can follow most discussions in the forum (OK, I avoid the lounge...) but I completely lost it regarding this custard business. Anyone care to explain (if not to make a bit more sense of this thread?)

cheers

V.
