In fairness to the forum, what was with the original picture posted, if you had a tanker being worked on? If you were trying to be coy, why post your own credentials and make yourself very searchable? Starting with deception and erratic inconsistent behaviour isn't a good opening.

I'm still puzzled about the talk of "anti-GPS jamming equipment". I'm no expert, and not sure if that's (anti-GPS) jamming equipment, i.e. you wanting to jam GPS in a region for some reason, or anti-(GPS jamming), i.e. somehow wanting to be immune from GPS jamming. Either case sounds quasi-military, unless the latter is double-speak for "having a chart/compass/sextant/clock" if you're in some cataclysmic event where you get no GPS at all (volcanic eruption with dense overhead cover?).

It's all a bit bizarre. Your heart might be in the right place, but I worry that you're ripe to have your money syphoned away by chancers promising the impossible, giving you inappropriate equipment.

I'd hate for your little fleet to become the disaster, rather than helping in one.

oh jesus i just watched the video. Shipping cash around "when the banking system breaks down"?

How much money do you think this oil tanker + patrol boats will hold, or are you thinking "gold"? Where are you going to get that from? Why would anyone give that to you? Please wake up. Get Help.

Me too mate.

I need to know that if im in greece and nato starts being at war with Isis/assad/russians... my gps won't get jammed.... even if most civilian systems are.

Raytheon sells a good little anti-jamming kit.

But to be honest. They cant jam the sun or stars and a plumb line. Who knows.... the world isn't the most stable right now..!

Care to reveal your identity?

I can't gauge if you have genuine questions, or a tick. Either way, if you really care about the details, send me a private message as some of the more genuine contributors to the forum did when they had some pretty well founded queations.

Good luck. I hope we end up friends.

Mr. R, or is it Dr. R (unclear from all the links posted in here)

I sincerely hope the ppl working on this vessel have something more than two dodgy photoshops that a first yr design undergad would do, and something better in terms of drawings than the last sketch. Also would be nice to have an overview of the whole craft and not only the mods to the front section as the aft part with the bridge (assuming you keep it) would make for an "interesting" side elevation.

It's not my job to judge anyone other than my students work, but since we're on an open forum, I have to say that the way you introduced yourself and your (vaporware?) project is beyond me and as time goes by and you post more info it's becoming even more confusing and annoying. Just to give an analogy, it feels to me like we (the forum members) are the poor stupid indigenous that you the smart(arse?) come along with some glass beads and want to exchange them with our valuables (whatever they may be-no idea, doubt it's where to park the 50m cargo ship of yours). So you go along paving your way with various small to large scale lies, for no apparent reason.
Wouldn't it be better to come, introduce yourself and tell us what you're up to / or what you want from us?
Why did you fill us up with all that nonsense?
[rant=OFF]

good luck with whatever this project of yours is (or will be)

cheers

I think there is every chance of money getting siphoned off and few of us would choose to use the boat / ship as the starting point for our own project but the fact is that's the boat.

Trying to define the purpose of the project is important. Is it going to be a private motor yacht, a disaster response tool or a post apocalyptic stronghold ?

My immediate thoughts are that you are limited by several factors compared to more conventional 50m private vessels. A Sunseeker 155 has a draft of just 2.7m as opposed to a bit under 4m judging by the markings on your bow. I think you mentioned a draft of over 5m previously. That doesn't look to be the case. Whilst out at sea your draft is largely immaterial when you want to berth somewhere draft will have a significant bearing.

Manoeverability. On a traditional private yacht the vessel is self manoevered using engines and thrusters. You wouldn't need to employ the services of a tug and can get into to tight spots. I wonder if you will have that luxury?

Berthing with other superyachts. I'm not sure you would be compatible with other superyachts when it comes to close quarters berthing. I do agree that it's their problem not yours as you would merely get the roller and paint out as they are wondering how to re-float and arrange salvage. I'm reminded of Seabourn Encore colliding with the cement carrier in Timaru. A private yacht might well have sunk, I'd give you a fair chance :)

What you are undertaking is vast. Do you have a naval architect on the project or are you running it yourself with sketches and meetings with the various trades?

Henry :)

These are fair points.

I misjudged the forum.

But i did invite everyone for a beer to resolve it.

Apologies again.

Mayne I'll come take a design class from you one day Vic. :-)

PM sent. I'm one of the easier people to google

Hi Henry,

She's got fore and aft thrusters...

Come see them when you have that beer.

It is a huge project.

I have some friends in the business. They've been sceptical too, but great.

======

I'm not putting up details on the web.... but you are all welcome to come in person and share thoughts over a beer.

See you all around i hope. Have a good day, wish everyone an enjoyable weekend.

Love this thread, will be following the build with interest, makes my £6k bill for this years maintenenance on my little 25 footer seem even more insignificant than it usually does on here.

Anyway, good luck with the build R, and if you find yourself in port adriano ( it can fit up to 80m )in mallorca pop over to my boat for a drink. Itll be like having a drink on your tender but its all boats,so its all good.

Make sure you load up with beer before going to Sweden - have you seen the price of the stuff there?

You will probably want to refuel in Morocco unless you have a wheeze to get duty free fuel like the airlines do.

Capital R, once again welcome to the forum!
My question is also logistics, why convert this ship in Northern Europe when its going to cost a fortune to get her to the South Pacific? I'm sure a far eastern yard would be quicker cheaper on time on budget and then it's a short cruise to Polynesia.

Boat was up there already.

Plan was to get it to Greece... asia is only half way to NZ.... plus... other reasons not mentioned yet on the web.

Funny. When i was at Navalmare in La Spezia, one of the fabricators literally spat at my feet when i walked by him to get on the boat. Never saw him again.

Bed time mow

Criticising the method of introduction / identity revelation is a bit harsh.

Some of us are easier to discover than others and some would rather not be discovered lest it affects business lives.

Over the years we have got to know who each other is and in many cases I purposely don't use some real names to maintain someone's cover of anonymity. We may well meet up and have a drink or a bite to eat but we still respect the individual when posting on the forum.

This is a friendly place. A question was asked, understandingly doubts were raised, myself included and the nature of the project is such that we all have questions and opinions. Is there any part of me that wants to be in R's shoes? No! It's a huge undertaking and even taking money out of the equation I simply wouldn't know where to start.

I want to fast forward and see the end result but suspect that will be some time off. In the meantime let's remember R is a human being. All be it one who is as mad as cheese :)

Henry :)

Edited to add:

When you do come and visit us in Gosport / Portsmouth you should contact Whitaker Tankers on 0044 (0) 2380 339989 for fuel bunkering services. In hindsight I fear you might cause mayhem on the Cowes fuel pontoon :)

Was he from the forum?
Oi Bouba, are you wondering if some Italian forumite who posted a comment on Navalmare/Williamsburg is actually a fabricator with the habit of spitting to anybody's feet...? :ambivalence:

Christ, this thread gets my vote as the most surrealistic. Ever! :)
