Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

I must say, I find this thread bizarre. After hundreds of posts, we haven't had a single decent photo. And I'm not talking professional photos, just some that someone (crew, worker, etc) with a camera phone could take in 30 minutes showing of various parts of the vessel (overall exterior, mods made so far, interior, etc). Most odd.

There are lots in my profile... I've reached my upload limit, so have started putting it on FB and other places easier to upload images.

It's not me... It's a YBW limit. :)

I saw that Rob but they certainly don't give much of a feel for the work done and the current state of the boat. Hopefully you'll be able to rectify the poor photo situation soon.

I did notice she was moving about quite a lot last week so must have been the trials. When do you think you will be moving her for good?

Maritime NZ are presently processing the survey/sea-trial results, and reclassifying her and issuing new Tonnage Certificates.

She's under 500gt now, due to the changes and modifications we've made (may even be below 400gt with the fuel tanks being classified as water balast); and I (more exciting) should be fully certified by nor just NZ, but also the RYA, to pilot/captain her by the end of summer...

She passed her Norwegian waters port/state safety inspection on Thursday, and has freedom to cruise Norway now. Still waiting on the paperwork to come through for permission to enter Mediterranean waters.

Boating at this size is suuuuuuuuuch a lot of admin, OMG.

Heading to Norway now. Will be there Thursday morning.

Good week of work out in Asia. Will try to organize custard this time. :)

Yes, that's better!

Nice collection of images. Lots and lots of work to do to get her to the point of your ambition images. Hats off again Rob for taking on such a daunting project. A vessel that age and size will be at least £10k per day to run? taking into account annual refit etc?

All told, a boat this size would normally cost £150,000 in crew wages per month, based on what it has cost so far.... Work runs at about £50,000/month, but would get up to £250/month if we were going hammer and tongs.

On the go-forward, I'm kiwi, so think I can do it all myself... She'll be laid up most of the time (in commercial terms), in a port with a 'skeleton' crew, then a full team when I get to use it, although I should have my tickets by then. Wife and family all have theirs too... So saves us about £1m a year.

The idea is to have just a big floating platform covered in anti-rust sealant, that gets blasted every two years until we donate her to be a lovley reef, in Tonga or Tahiti or somewhere in a few years.

Will keep everyone posted tho. It's fun as hell. Can't wait to actually use it...!

Thank you!!! Yes... And the papers.... Someone on here's probably a journalist..! (I'd tell them if they came to meet me, but maybe they won't be kind enough to ask...)..

Have fun! I'm flexible now until end of June (all work can be done online) - might see you over there!!

You're welcome to come up any time.

Haugesund. We're planning a trip North to Bergen this weekend/next week, to go look at some Fijords. The reclassification and new Gross Tonnage is still coming through from NZ, but at least it's happening. So for now, we're restricted to Norwegian (or Pacific) waters.... but we have unlimited cruising approvals from Norways Port/State inspectors.

I thought you got the boat to be a disaster relief vessel? Then it was to be a converted super yacht as per your renderings and now you plan on sinking it?????:ambivalence:

..... MrB.... It's kind of like waking up in the morning, and planning on having Breakfast, then Lunch, and then Dinner on your birthday. I see where you are comming from, I guess if you tell the breakfast waiter what you want all at once, you might end up with a confused waiter.

However, if you explain that you have a full plan for the day, which in this case, is a ship that can do more thing than once, and when it gets to the end of its life, could be a very cool dive spot... Or coral growth platform, as one final thing, it's not too confusing.

I tend to think in 10 year blocks, which I apologise for...! Either way... I'm nearly in Norway... And am very excited!

Pending how far up you are planning to move, you should not miss Geiranger ... but irrespective take the scenic route up North of Haugesund and take the inner lead up over the more open area "Sletta" (just as you exit Haugesund. .. then veer to Starboard on the inside of the islands Moster and Fitjar.. where you can enter the Hardangerfjord, which should be beautiful at this time of the year ...

If you want to make a Soutward journey from Haugesund, you have the vast sheltered basin of Ryfylke (area on the inside of Stavanger and up to Haugesund) with plenty of deep scenic fjords etc... one of them being Lysefjord where you find Pulpit Rock (a 600 M plateau that almost looks like it has been carved out with a knife and that have an inverse drop straight down to the fjord) ... This is one that should be on every ones bucket list...

and as a small curiosity, the latest of the Mission Impossible films had scenes in the film from there ... https://twitter.com/TomCruise/status/960156064871219200/photo/1

Safe journeys!!

Outstanding, thank you!

We're passages planning.

This is such a cool ship...... So much to be done... But man it's cool!

When you reach further into the Hardangerfjord, you should be OK to anchor up (or find a longside quay) and take the trip up to the glacier Folgefonna ...

And if my recollection is right, they will just have opened the road (too much snow to open before now, so opening set to 27th April) in to the skicentre, so you can do some glacier summer skiing ..
