Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

Red above white above red.

Oh Capital R. That is a fairly grotty elderly (1990s?) small survey vessel.

Yep. Grotty compared to some things... but has an older history as a tanker too.

Hence... why i ended up with her.

It's some major project.....!

But after a night aboard... i like it even more than before. I think it's that it has a forward and aft engine room... or maybe one is 2 stories high; or how nice the energy is.... i slept like a baby..

Was wonderful.

The lights were all on..

240v and 24v ... and every other switch i could find....

What happened to her between your design phase and now?

Design phase is the end goal.

We're moving her towards that... slowly but surely.

Here are the rough, phases....

(Can't upload... sorry..!)

My profile photo has the beginnings of it...!

The water viz is amazing, wish we had that for diving in Ireland!

Best of luck with everything.

You're welcome in norway any time Alt.

Or Greece... or wherever we manage to go!

I really should be more diciplined. Just took 3 days off helping a friend with the purchase of a new boat. About to hit the road for an epic 4 day diving trip. I'll probably have to do some work when I get back!

Good Morning OceanSpirit~

I've been thinking about your comments, and knowledge here on vessels... and would welcome guidance.

As from earlier in this post, we came by this oppprtunity as a support tender to a group of boats in reaponse to a situation that is now obsolete...

Given it had fairly nice lines; and was a very solid ship; and that our crew, as the former crew had done before them, quickly fell in love with it.... we decided to make it a bit nicer and convert to something more family and guest friendly.

(Insert planning phase images here).

No doubt a fairly big job. And potentially a fun one. Certainly one worth sharing (as a person, I'm far more interested in the journey than the outcome) - but for pointing out that the Journey and success in life, from my experience, is not about where you start from that counts (be it starting humbly, old, or grottily!) but where you end up that counts.

Which makes me realise that your above words are helpful; and set the bar low, at the outset - for the job we will do, as a base line from where we have come.

I apologise again for not understanding the forum's etiquette rules - but I'm sure if we'd met in person you'd not have called my project Grotty and Old.... but been more constructive... and said "holy smokes, you've bitten off a big one there, capital R".

I'm not saying the comments are incorrect; there is much work to do. And I'm new to forums, so I am still getting used to the linguistic styles.

Anyhow; welcome great feedback, ideally constructive. Apologies again that this appears to have struck a bit of a nerve... I cant imagine any boat owner would call another boat owner's newest passion/outlet anything discouraging on purpose...!!

:-)

R.

I have been following this post with great interest and I'm very envious of the journey that lies ahead of yourself to bring this vessel into the boat of your dreams.

Please keep this post alive with all of your updates along the way!
Justin.

Ah! New twist; the Kiwi crew working to move her ASAP have just come to thr limit of their permissible Shenzhen allotment for this 6 months. Argh... what to do...?!

Get yourself a new crew and sack whichever manager didnt think about this. In theory and AFAIK the NZs will have to leave the EU and not come back again for another 6 months but I guess a call to the NZ embassy in Sweden might clarify the situation

Or failing that, get the boat out beyond the 12 mile limit into international waters and carry on working if you can

Shengen is about free movement of Eu citizens across Eu borders. Kiwi's will need a visa to work in the Eu, and probably in Norway too. However, I'm not sure that crewing carries the same restrictions, as I don't believe merchant navy men have Visa's for all ports? Check with the Kiwi Embassy, bug you may not have a problem?
