SWIVEL OR NOT

Should I use a swivel on my anchor system which is 20ft of heavy chain and rope with a CQR 16kg which is pulled up with a capstan winch, I mainly anchor in 70+ feet depth.

I never liked them but my new boat arrived with a swivel fitted and must say so far so good.

Well I don't think it matters as your anchor will not reach the bottom anyway!

The only recommendation that my surveyor made was to remove the swivel from the anchor chain...........

I had never worried about having one in the past but he should have more experience than me so it was removed. Still sticks to the bottom without it on the odd occasion.

Perhaps I mistook but 70 ft is a helluva depth to anchor, especially if you only have 20ft of heavy chain and rope /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
