I must confess that they are probably the most ill constructed device around, the circuit board protection is virtually non existent. They work, but for how long gawd only knows. If you keep it absolutely dry it would certainly last longer.

Had one and it worked finwe for7 or 8 years or so. Only just pacjed in. However there are better ones available now , the design is pretty dated. What about an HX270?

I have one on Rowana just because it was there when I bought her.

I somehow aquired two but kept them on board as spares. A few months ago the channel selector broke on the Ratheon so i swapped the connections and used the Swiftech but clarity is not too good. Using hh for locks etc now and Ratheon on 16 constant SO...... no... i think they are rubbish. I would get DSC but not really happy about using it even though we did the course. By the way what is the best fixed DSC to buy (birthday soon!)

We used them for ages as Inspectors HH's on and off ships and only trouble we had was battery charging. The supplied charger was too powerful and couldn't be left on the set for more than a few hours. We got fed up with replacing battery packs in the end.
As to anothers post about quality of internals - considering that they and also loads of fixed VHF's were actually same models with different cases....... this in fact extends further than just here - it goes for various radios, stereos etc.
We have replaced with Cobra pocket sets at 70 quid for a pair ! (but the Swiftechs are still in GWO apart from needing new battery packs ... they are now umpteen years old).
