I'm thinking of putting my boat into Swanick for the winter months ( afloat ). Wondered if anyone out there had any opinions, experiences of Swanick or could offer an aternative suggestion that would not totally bust the bank.

We have been in Universal Marina (www.universalmarina.co.uk) just next door for nearly three years and would highly recommend it as a great place to be berthed.

We stay afloat over the winter, the berthing staff ensure each boat is checked at least once daily (and its a proper check, not a glance and move on), they are always helpful, nothing is too much of a problem - in fact, if Carlsberg made marina staff.........

Nothing to do with them, just a really happy customer, etc, etc.

Seconded, we moved there this year, sold our mobo and got a yot and they were very helpfull assigning us a new berth. Very pleased.

We had a couple of months free after buying at Swanick, (paid for under the PO contract). Went down there late one Friday evening in October. Place was alive with parties going on all over the place and half the yachts had lights on and occupied. Staff friendly but annual costs to much for us.

Swanwick is fine, staff are generally helpful, I think the Security is above average, the berths are quite big and spacious, shower facilities arent amongst the best (unlike Port Solent!)

What I would say is that the yard is looking pretty untidy and ill disciplined these days and some of the marina infastructure is starting to fail a bit (entry systems) etc I'm guessing this will all be improved if and when the place is redeveloped. All of which probably isnt an issue if you are just there for the winter.

Also depends where you are driving from when coming to the Marina. and if you are going to be making frequent trips to the boat. The long lane down to Universal could be a bit of a drag if you were up and down it all day!
