Well, the sun was out and the sea was warm so it didn't matter too much. Just as well the boat weighs over 4 ton and wasn't a Wayfarer which are not uncommon at the mouth of the Hamble. This where yachts round up to lower theit mains so one or two were left clinging to booms...I suppose it's only a matter of time before poweboat wash actually drowns someone or will someone in authority take some action?

Going into the river Tyne a couple of days ago, chugging along under engine at about 5 knots minding my own business when a Bayliner about 26ft came past me about 30 yards away doing well over 20 knots.

I held tight warned the crew and - nothing happened.

Much less wash than fishing boat Shields ferry or big ship.

Is there really a problem?

Perhaps they don't go fast enough.
